Thanks JJ! We've been doing that every few days, just to maintain the pool in swimable condition. Last week we even brought it up to 16 to SLAM. We've just about cleaned out the shelves at Walmart.

I poured white vinegar on it, and it fizzes up like an alka seltzer. The ones I left in the pool seem to have dissipated after I added 2lbs of washing soda. Very strange. Third year pool owner and have never seen anything like it.
