    What's your current pool temp?

San Jose, CA. Mid 80's air temperatures this week, and the pool is 80 with solar of 1/2 the surface area of the pool. Covering at night. I'm happy, but the toddler can stay in longer if it's more like 85.

    CYA Disappearing

San Jose, CA. No substantial amount of rain (or snow, for that matter), so it isn't an overflow issue, and splashing water loss minimal last season. Opened to 0 CYA after finishing last season at 50, confirmed with home test kit, friend's test kit, as well as pool store. Pool was covered...

New fiberglass pool is full of cracks... HELP!

I don't recall if you said you were photographing the spread of cracks to document the issues. It seems like a good idea to photograph, then to email yourself to get a timestamp, but maybe that's overkill.

    Pool Size Dilemma

+5% cost for +25% surface area? Bigger is better in this case, but it isn't my money.

    I just broke a pipe... :(

Same position, but after stepping on a pipe (that fortunately did not break) I now hold a camera back there, trigger it blind, then look at the photo if I need anything.

    Brand new DE filter

Possible that switching seems to relieve the problem, when in reality switching (after using DE for several cycles) occurs after most of the fine particles are removed, and the DE alternative seems to work when the DE actually did the work.

Have you ever started from scratch?

WRT (nobody performing) testing for iron and copper: check with aquarium supplies/ shops instead of pool supply, those are common water tests. Since you don't know where the metal content in the previous water came from, you may want to test now and test again in a couple months to see if the...

A Little Help to Save My Marriage!!!

My first thought when I saw the title of the post was "Car Talk". We found a place with an inground. Looked around for a long time, while living in a pretty sketchy rental, found the right place.

    Automatic pool cover

I guess with a multimeter you could check whether the motor is stalling when it fails to open/ close: check current, if it spikes then the motor is stalling.

Had a HUGE load on my pool this weekend!

Better a huge load ON the pool than a huge load IN the pool

Would this work to cool a pool?

I'm not so sure. Say it's summer, water temp is 85. 85 degree water goes through pipes, gets cooled to 60. The ground adjacent to those pipes isn't 55 anymore, and it'll take time for that heat to get dissipated, so more water flows down and is only cooled to 65, ..., something about...

    Heating upon refill, cost

We have a tankless water heater, generally used with the popup camper. We use a 20lb propane tank with it. 300 gallon hot tub, 2400lb water. To bring water from 50F to 100F will take 120k BTU. The propane tank holds about 350k BTU, and the heater operates at maybe 80% efficiency. 150k...

    Water Temperature Sensor

Photos and updates at the end of next week. Planning on automating a loop with pump run and solar heating for the pool.

    Water Temperature Sensor

With a little too much time on my hands, I was thinking about automating solar heat collection for the pool. I've browsed a bit, including this thread: diy-automated-controls-advice-solicited-t5708-80.html In putting together a parts list, I know I'm going to need to add a water temperature...
