Can CYA be to high to stop SWG working

    1. Can you post a full set of test results? 2. Was your SWG running when you did the overnight loss test?

    What in the World???

If you're using pucks be sure to monitor your CYA levels. They will go up pretty quickly in a pool that size.

    Chronic High PH

Your Ph will naturally rise with a SWG. Lowering your TA to 60 or 70 will slow the rise somewhat and reduce the frequency with which you will have to add acid. But... You should absolutely get your own test kit, and not rely on pool store testing. If you are using a mineral system, you are...

    pH problem

I believe that using dichlor is creating two problems for you - elevated CYA and low Ph. While 7.2 is fine, continued use of dichlor is just about to start causing you other problems. I would switch to liquid chlorine if I were you.

    Adding an in-line chlorinator

I'm assuming that, with a SWG, your CYA is already at 70 or 80. If you start using tablets in a chlorinator, you're going to start raising that up pretty quickly. It won't be long before you have CYA at 150 or 160 and recurring algae problems. It's OK and probably easier just to supplement your...

$100 if you can figure out the white "stuff" in my pool

I would say it's organic debris that has been bleached out by the chlorine but not yet settled to the bottom to be vacuumed up or pulled down the main drain to the filters. I wouldn't lose any sleep over it.

    The medical effects of chlorine

    1. You may not need to shower but, if it makes your wife feel better, it can't hurt. 2. Foot and mouth is pretty contagious. Certainly, I wouldn't let the other children swim at the same time as your sick one. Chlorine shouldn't do anything to prevent him healing. ETA: It is possible to get...

    Confused about alkalinity and pH

No, for CYA of 70 with a SWG, the recommended min FC is 3 with a target of 5 - see here. If your Ph is not rising too quickly, your TA is fine - if it does, then you can lower your TA to 70 and see if that helps. All of your other numbers look fine, too. You have a vinyl liner, so don't worry...

    Just Cancelled our Service

If you maintain your chlorine at an adequate level, you should never have to shock at all. And even if you do get an algae bloom, don't add "shock", which contains either calcium of CYA. Just use liquid chlorine to raise your chlorine to SLAM levels and follow the procedures outlined on this site.

    Help Needed In Rio!

That looks pretty murky to me. I call algae. I would not believe too much that a Brazilian Olympic or government official says.

    Well, that should be manageable.

So...how much bleach to SLAM a 500,000 gallon pool?

    Using TFP SWG Guidelines

It's OK to put some bleach in there to help your SWG out if it's struggling to keep up.
