Yep, the kids like BBT and named him that.
Ken, oh yes. We had a turtle many years ago, so I know what I'm getting into. Maybe my next house will have to have two ponds... one natural and one cement.
Nope, he's not a snapping turtle, but rather a red ear slider. Given his size and age, our family has a theory on how he ended up in our pool, but was wanting to ask the TFP community on how they think this little one might have made the trip.
I opened my pool a week ago, and within 48 hours I was clean, clear and balanced. Thanks to TFP of course. :goodjob:
I put on my new solar cover Tuesday night to try to get my 62 degree water up to somewhat of a swimmable temperature and left it there until Saturday morning. I got up early...
I might try that out tomorrow. No one was at home today to monitor the pool.
Good news is that T-storms are moving in and the air temp has gone from 93 to about 79 degrees. I have the jets running right now.
Thanks for the reports guys. Dave, it doesn't get hot in Raleigh... I mean it was only about 95 degrees in Newton Grove when I was visiting home last month. :)
Got up at 6 am and the pool temp was 85 which is good. Over the past week the temp is generally 88 to 89, so I'll take a 3 degree...
I'm hoping for this:
But since our relative humidity is so high right now, I'm not sure how much is being evaporated.
I'll let you all know.

**edit** and BTW, the wife was watering plants and that is why the concrete is so wet.
Man, this Kansas heat is killing us this year. It's so hot, that jumping into 92 degree water isn't cutting it anymore.
Tonight I thought I would engineer a way to get some evaporative cooling into my pool water. I know it'll raise my pH, but I would rather buy more Muriatic Acid...
Some friends of mine that used to live in Texas said they used to have an ice company deliver blocks of ice to have them dumped into their pool to cool it off. Not sure of the sizes or quantity. I'm sure 100 pounds or two would help.
Last year my wife and I bought 20 bags of 7 lbs ice, and...
Update.
Got home last night from a great time in Las Vegas and the Grand Canyon.
The night before we left, I added a gallon of 6% bleach bringing my FC up to about 14 ppm and bumped my SWG up to 40%, leaving the pump on 24hrs/day. When I tested last night my FC levels were around 8 PPM...
I'm using a Taylor DPD test kit from Leslies. I tried those OTO's before an never liked the results. But yes, the pool is crystal clear and sparkling, I just want it that way when get back home on Friday.
OT: From Raleigh huh? I grew up down in Duplin County and my father now lives near...
I did the overnight test last night. Started at 6 ppm FC and this morning at 0700 it was still 6 ppm. I diluted my pool sample with distilled water at a 50/50 ratio to get this.
So I guess I'll just chalk this up to the heat wave. Cold front is supposed to move in early this evening. Woo...
Paul, if I am at 5 to 6 ppm chlorine one day, I might have to boost it up with about a gallon of 6% bleach every two days or so. But this has only been for the past 7 days or so as we have been having 95+ degree day time temps. Does heat degrade FC, is it just direct sunlight or a combination...
