Just as an update, Pentair sent a local pool company out to replace my flow switch under warranty. That seemed to work...until it didn't and started having the same symptoms. So they came back yesterday and replaced the whole cell. Woo hoo !

Tivo, That's the one I almost went with, but decided to stick with OEM Pentair.

I just got off the phone with Pentair and it looks like I may be within the 3-year "bundled" warranty period since I purchased a Pentair pump, sand filter and SWG. Woo hoo! Many thanks for the suggestion. I called and cancelled my order for the switch that I had placed earlier today.

I saw some in that price range, but those appeared to me to be aftermarket switches and not genuine Pentair but I could be wrong?. I called around to 3 local pool stores and was quoted $160 from the first, $249 from the second and $269 from the third...just for the part !

I found it for $106 from Pool Supply World. I confirmed with them that it was the genuine Pentair switch and they claimed it was. I will still see how far I can get with Pentair customer service like you said...can't hurt to try! I have all Pentair equipment as well.

Dirk, So I was a year off. I guess time flies when you're having fun. I looked back at my paperwork and It's been almost 3 years since I purchased the equipment. I'm sure no warranty at this stage right?

Another observation for what it's worth. I just went out and backwashed again (had perfectly clear water flowing through the glass bulb during rinse and flow light was green). Then took a rubber mallet and tapped all around the tank. After doing that, the glass bulb became quite dirty again...

Flying Tivo, Thanks for the reply! I just went out to do as you suggested and it's back to green on the flow light and, of course, no flashing green and red at the top. I will try the recirculate next time it acts up. What will that tell us exactly?
