    Post SLAM

SWG is still off, of course. I’m just interested to verify my pH is good. It was 7.8 before I started the SLAM. It’s a great guide and well written. So also, one of the last things I did at the end was to add some DE to my sand filter to help clear up the stubborn cloudiness. This was...

    Post SLAM

I opened my pool recently and followed the SLAM process carefully, with great results. But now that it’s done, I’ve been sitting on high chlorine levels (26 ppm) that are not dropping. My target level for SLAM was 24 based on 60 CYA (it’s a salt water pool) so this seems about right. Since it...

    Bonding wire?

    That’s just for winterizing

    Bonding wire?

Ok, thanks everyone for the suggestions! I may try to relocate that. I’ve got new Jandy valves on order already. Since this is my first pool, I didn’t know to ask for that when they built it.

    Bonding wire?

I would like to add a heater bypass valve, but my existing plumbing is very tight. I might free up space for a tee if I don't need this section with a bonding wire going to it. Does anyone know if this is really needed? I have not noticed it on pictures of other Pools or at my friends pools.

    Liquid chlorine questions

I’ve got a SWCG for my pool, but I also manage my sister’s chlorine pool. I get a gallon of 12.5% chlorine from Menards for $4.50-4.99. I have her on a routine of adding 2 cups whenever I can’t get over there to test and be certain of the level. I’ve been able to keep it between 4-8 ppm without...

    Aiper Scuba S1 Review

I’ve had the Scuba S1 since May, replacing my old Active Solo. I like the fact that it is cordless, since I have an auto cover it’s nice to have nothing sticking out at night. Plus, my cord was always twisted. But I’ve got to say the Scuba S1 has one drawback concerning the strength of suction...

    Salt water pool over shocked

When reflecting on how the CYA got so incredibly high, you might ask that pool guy what product he was putting in. Seems likely to be a combination chlorine and stabilizer, like Di-Zap. This is something to avoid in the future.

    App Recommendations?

Several of the comments say something like “the Pool Math recommendation to drain and refill is incorrect.” I agree with that, but why is the app not being corrected? For this reason and many others, I just can’t use Pool Math. I can’t trust it.

    Salt water pool over shocked

Just to put a finer point on the FC/ CYA topic: with a salt water pool, your ideal CYA would be 70-80 ppm, which would allow free chlorine in the 5-11 ppm range. There is no risk to health or comfort with FC at this least, as long as your combined chlorine is under control.

    Robotic cleaner

We have had a Dolphin Active Solo for 2+ years, provided as a part of our pool build package. It worked great for almost 2 years, and then started having issues just turning off for no reason. The dealer took it back and replaced the motor twice last year, but never resolved the issue, and now...

    Nautilus CC Stopped Moving

My Maytronic has been doing the same thing, but a different model. However, it seems likely the logic on the circuit board is the same. From what I can tell, the impeller motor torque is read by the electronics, and if too low (such as the unit is not in the water) or too high (such as hair...
