    Backwash Valve Replacement

Well, as it turned out I had to replace the whole piston assembly. I must have cracked the original one, because even with new o-rings it leaked out the top. New one installed and working fine now. Thanks to everyone who replied and left tips. It all helped. Happy Thanksgiving to all!

    Backwash Valve Replacement

Well, it's come to this. I'm either going to get a whole new valve, plunger, casing and all, or I'm just going to replace the core plunger. This old plunger of mine has a few problems from when I replaced the O rings back in October. I bunged up the cotter pin getting the handle off of the...

    Backwash Valve Replacement

Well, I finally got the core out of the casing. What I did was, 1) First I drained the filter tank, 2) then I disconnected the tank from the backwash valve, 3) Then I sprayed some WD-40 into the valve's both ports, 4) I let that soak a while, while I cleaned the filter grids, 5) then I...

No, I haven't tried ZerO lube yet. I don't even have any, yet. I'll see if I can find some locally.

    Backwash Valve Replacement

My slider backwash valve is stuck. So stuck that I can't even turn the handle. So, I am planning on replacing it with a "Pentair 261152 Multiport Valve Kit 2in. Threaded" valve. First, I want to know if this is the right valve for my DE filter: 261152 Pentair Multiport Valve Threaded.jpg -...

    Black spots - algae?

Well, I got the black algae off, refill in progress. It's obvious to me now that the pool surface needs repainting. I am going to tackle that job later this year or in the spring. Sometime when the weather is more suitable. Right now we are still having 100 degree temps. Ugh!!

    Black spots - algae?

After refilling my pool, can I use the SLAM method to get it rebalanced? Or is there another recommended procedure? Oh yea, what is "shock level", referred to in the SLAMing procedure. http://tinyurl.com/lzrlk2b

    Black spots - algae?

The more I look at it, the more I think it is the paint coming off. I can remember this whitish look getting worse and worse over the last 5 to 9 years. It could be scale I suppose, but when I run my finger over it the whitish ares are smooth, and then the other areas are kind of rough, like a...

See the white blotches? What is that? Is that calcium scale buildup? They feel smooth to the touch.

    Black spots - algae?

I do have a picture of one of the spots. This was taken this morning, through the water. It's not a very good picture. I also have a lot of scale. The other blotches are clear places in the scale.

    Black spots - algae?

I'm getting ready to drain and refill my pool in order to reduce the CYA and CH. I also have three black spot areas that I can't brush out, I was wondering how to remove the spots after all the water is drained. Here are my test results from yesterday: FC = 8 CC = .5 pH = 7.5 TA = 150 CH =...
