Question about FC needing to get higher with SWG running at 90%

Understood especially on the point that SWG by itself cannot raise the FC to high levels but the question was more on is 4 ppm the limit. And the Pool Math calculator says that it should be above 6 for a SWG based pool, hence the question. I did take the readings like you mentioned and here...

Question about FC needing to get higher with SWG running at 90%

Would there then be another reason why my FC is only 4 ppm when the T-15 should be generating more? It was set to 90 %. Cause the Pool Math is saying that for CYA 80, my FC should be above 6.

Question about FC needing to get higher with SWG running at 90%

Not to add to the puzzle but I did the overnight test today and noticed that the FC was still at 4 ppm (same as the reading I took yesterday evening)! On a side note, I have to tell you, this TF Pro kit makes FC testing way easier and I really like the fact that it is granular to the 0.5 ppm...

Question about FC needing to get higher with SWG running at 90%

Thank you ajw22 and indeed fair point that I will need to consider drain/refill vs chlorine cost. BTW, for SLAM, I understand that liquid chlorine is better. Would a product at the link here work? https://www.lowes.com/pd/Pool-Essentials-1-Gallon-Liquid-Pool-Chlorine/5001527059 Or should I be...

Question about FC needing to get higher with SWG running at 90%

Thank you for the information. After I posted, I tried looking for material on why SWG would not generate enough FC and saw that point you just raised, i.e. even if not visible, there could be enough algae that is consuming a lot of the FC generated by the SWG, hence cannot keep up. Totally...

Question about FC needing to get higher with SWG running at 90%

Hello! I'd recently had an issue with my pool where the SWG (Hayward T-15) was not working. Free chlorine readings were always on the low end at 1 or less ppm. Replaced the same and it started generating chlorine fine. Pool tech would take readings and adjust balance as needed once a week. He...

Hayward system shows normal readings but chlorine not being generated

Hi JamesW, This is going to be embarrassing on a couple of fronts. As mentioned before, pool tech (Ted) told me he saw 6600 ppm for salt readings on the water. And he asked me to use my salt strips just to be sure and I noticed the strips saying something in that range (6K +). So I drained...

Hayward system shows normal readings but chlorine not being generated

Hi JamesW, Apologies for the delay in responding. Was out for a bit and then a hurricane just came through Houston and the eye passed through our side so we were out of power etc for a while. I did check the temperature separately and it was showing 87 at 7 pm. Right now as you said, I'm using...

Hayward system shows normal readings but chlorine not being generated

Thanks JamesW & ajw22 for your responses. Like you both said and based on the formula, this cell definitely needs replacing. Thanks for the article on liquid chlorine. I'd never had to do the chlorine maintenance myself hence this bit is new to me. I'll do accordingly. Yes, I did think it was...

Hayward system shows normal readings but chlorine not being generated

Hello, I have a 20000 gallon pool that's been running on a salt system for a few years now. The last time I replaced the T-15 cell was 4 years ago. Earlier this year I had the pool acid washed and refilled, added salt etc to get it going. Somewhere along the way, a rabbit/squirrel chewed a small...

Pool pump motor fried during storm - twice?

Thanks Guinness and apologies for the late reply. As per the thread, I did try the 3 min shut off with breaker and turn on again but nothing happened there. The only difference was that the motor was off for the whole night and then turned on once the manual timer came back on. The pool tech...

Pool pump motor fried during storm - twice?

Thanks guinness, that's what I'm hearind about these motors. Since I had the whole house surge protector in, did not think of one for the panel. And oddly enough, today morning the motor decides to work again as if nothing happened! Will see what the pool tech says tomorrow. He says there's no...

Pool pump motor fried during storm - twice?

Folks, I live in the Houston area and we are having our fair share of thunderstorms now. A few weeks ago, there was a major one that caused a transformer (or an arrestor not sure which) to pop in our neighborhood and we lost power. Since that incident, the variable speed pool motor I had (V...
