Bouncy / soft steps - replace or alternative options

On my previous pool there was a stair which had cracked and been repaired with epoxy putty a few times too often. I purchased a 3/8 thick 2'x4' dark grey piece of PVC from www.mcmaster.com - cut a stair tread to size, rounded it over nicely using a woodworking router (1/4 " round-over bit) and...

    Deck Questions

If you want to spen a little extra for a really nice look, have a look at Ipe, Massaranduba and friends. Typical cost is $5-$10 per sq ft for the decking planks alone ($2.5 per lin ft on the 6" wide planks) - the structural parts can be pressure treated pine to save $. That's what I'll do...

New pool in Princeton, NJ this summer

All right, the contract is signed. <sigh> I got a decent and realistic price IMHO after some negotiating. I obtained quotes from four pool builders - 2 national chains, two local companies. Checked the BBB, talked with references - one of whom was extremely helpful on all the option and...

Hayward TriStar Variable Flo vs. Pentar Intelliflo

Mechanically, nothing I suppose. the challenge is more in the integration with an automation system. The manual on the Pentair site details what programming you can do with it even without automation. http://www.pentairpool.com/products/products3.php?id=77

Hayward TriStar Variable Flo vs. Pentar Intelliflo

Thanks for the feedback ! As a software engineer, I am comfortable with figuring out the programming ... But I'll probably have to make it work on a Hayward/Goldline automation system. Allegedly it is possible but with limited features. That's just fine with me ... as long as I can program...

Hayward TriStar Variable Flo vs. Pentar Intelliflo

All, I am trying to make up my mind between a Pentair IntelliFlo and a TriStar Variable Speed (http://www.haywardnet.com/pdfs/TriStarE ... SESB07.pdf) Cost is similar ... and I have read many good reviews on the IntelliFlo, nothing on the Hayward. Most importantly - how does their efficiency...

Setting travertine pavers yourself PoolGuyNJ, can you please elaborate on the challenges of settin ghte pavers ? If you have a properly compacted sub - base, what are the things to watch out for ? As I said I have set pavers (in a dry sand/cement bed on compacted crushed stone) before ... but...

Umbrealla sleeves a tripping hazard ? PoolGuyNJ, you said umbrella sleeves were a potential tripping hazard ... how so ? I thought they were basically a 1 1/2" or so tube embedded in the gunite, flush with the plaster. Of course we wouldn't stick a wood shaft in it ... agreed ! Patrick

New pool in Princeton, NJ this summer

Thank you thank you thank you ! Yes, I meant the LED lights ... I'll check on the Legend cleaners, too. I think I can protect against chafe from the cover by putting thick burlap or something between the cover and the travertine. I think that getting good quality stone makes all the...

New pool in Princeton, NJ this summer

Thank you both ! The good thing about the Nature2 is that it's so easy to remove from a cartridge filter :o) All 4 builders recommended it but now I am not so sure I want it ... I'll search this forum about it. I intend to continue with the BBB method - it worked so well on my last pool 32x16...

New pool in Princeton, NJ this summer

All, we are planning to build a pool this spring in Princeton, NJ. It is currently snowing, 4 inch and growing, so I am getting in the mood for spring ! We have two young children so it is more of a fun pool, although we will (rarely) do laps. Here is what he have planned – I am just looking...
