What kind of winter pool cover do you use?

Re: What kind of winter pool cover do you use? and cover wei After the blue water bags spring a leak every year what do people use as winter cover weights ? I started buying $1 bags of top soil and placing them as far from the edge as the cover will allow - the soil turns to ice in November...

A follow up question.... do I just switch it from Auto to SuperChlorinate for 1 second to initiate the 24 hr Super Chlorinate ? Or do I leave the setting at "SuperChlorinate" for the full 24 hours ???? and then return to "Auto" at the end of the 24 hour cycle ???

Any tricks to keep worms out of the pool when it rains ?

No - I haven't tried any of those ideas.... I put the Solar blanket on and it rained all week - When I took it off there were fewer worms in the pool so maybe that worked ?? I'm going to dig up the grass to about 3 ' all the way around and place River Rock... Maybe that will help. Stay tuned...

Solar cover vs. Solar Sun Discs/Sun Rings/Pool Disk

Michael - Bob did ours in August also - Not sure how he does so many pools ... that's a lot of driving from his place in Stittsville. You had your pool up to 83 F on April 30 ???? Wow - ours is still at around 60 degrees. Are you heating yours with Natural Gas ? I had the Solar blanket on...

Any tricks to keep worms out of the pool when it rains ?

We have been getting a lot or rain lately and I'm scooping quite a few worms out each day. Is there anything I can do to keep them from crawling across the 3' concrete deck and into the water ? We have grass around 1/2 the pool and pine mulch on gravel along the other half and I'm pretty sure...

Solar cover vs. Solar Sun Discs/Sun Rings/Pool Disk

Not very heavy. I slide them off the pool and then fold on the lawn. I usually leave them on over night and take off around 10:00 am if full sun. If it is cloudy or rainy I leave them on during the day also. When they are on in full Sun I find that the 1st foot of water gets very warm but not so...

mart - Bob said approaching 60. the thermometer in the pool said 60, the diagnostic buttn on the chlorinator said 60 and the thermometer on the gas heater said 55 (which is probably more accurate) - As far as priming the pump - yes I forgot to close the lid.... as soon as I did the water...

    opening questions

Thanks Jason - You answered my antifreeze question. When I couldn't get the Pump to Prime at "Backwash" I switched to filter and then the pump started up and antifreeze went into the pool.

Anyone know if it is a big problem the antifreeze flows into the pool ? I had it set to backwash, but when I couldn't get the Pump to prime I switched to filter - and then the pump started up - which meant anti-freeze went into the pool . Hopefully it will be well diluted in 20,000 gallons...

Solar cover vs. Solar Sun Discs/Sun Rings/Pool Disk

LovemyPool - Great Post. I went through the same process before deciding on the following. Our Pool is also a irregular Shape it is like a kidney with an extra bump in the middle. The shape is comprised of 2 - 18' diameter circles with that extra bump connecting them. At the Pool Supply place...

Thanks JamesW - I notice that the 1st 2 green lights are lit and says it is converting to Chlorine. I also jumped in for a quick swim (Polar bear dip) and the water tasted a bit salty. It was like swimming in the Pacific Ocean.

mart242 - Our backyard faces south so the water is warming up fast ... the thermometer in the pool (near the surface reads 60 degrees. I emailed Bob to see what he thought and he said if the water is getting towards 60 I could start the pump and run for the 1st 24 hours. Took me a while to get...

Started her up. Pool Temp is 54 degrees ... I turned on the gas heater to make sure it was working and raised the temp to 56 degrees in about an hour. Will the Salt chlorinator concert the salt to chlorine at that temperature ? I hope I don't damage the cell.

Best month to open my pool

Up here in Ottawa, Canada - I opened the pool last weekend. April 3rd. We don't have many trees and the water that was on the cover (rain and melted snow was very clean) So I pulled the cover off and let the water go into the pool. The water is very very cold - so no algae at all. Crystal...
