    Help with high combined chlorine!

I used a Walmart OTO kit and some sodium thiosulfate to knock the TC down to about 12. Just completed the Taylor K-2006 test today here are the results. FC is 5.5 CC is .5 PH is 7.1 TA is 100 CH is 310 Having trouble with the CYA test as the instructions are pretty vague. Adding liquid to...

Rusted coping - How to repair?

Correct, you are just buying some time. Eventually it will rust through from the backside to the front.

Rusted coping - How to repair?

After cleaning metal, you generally want to use either a rust converter or a rust neutralizer like navel jelly to kill the rust in the pores and pits mechanical rust removal misses. Rust is just like cancer, miss a little bit and it can grow right back.

Rusted coping - How to repair?

I have done some autobody work. If the metal is really rusted, its best to completely replace it. At the very least, it will need to be power wirebrushed or sandblasted, then treated with a rust converter, then primed with a 2k epoxy primer which is the only waterproof primer, then a 2k urethane...

    What's your current pool temp?

The warmer I get, the further it has to drop when the weather cools off. In NJ, we have a very rapid decline in air temps starting in late Aug, with the pool season being pretty much done by mid Sept without major help from fuel heating.

    Poolside Plants

Another nice plant are Musa Basjoo, aka cold hardy bananas. Very easy to grow, but give them room as they can get very big. Personally I don't bother to hide my filter equipment, I am proud of it and want it to be seen, probably because I am a geahead LOL.

    What's your current pool temp?

Two weeks ago I had my pool water temps up to 97 degrees from solar heating.

    Hi.

Hi, I am the current owner and caretaker of my family's pool that my grandfather had built back in the early 1970's. Its an old A&S inground gunite pool, around 30K gallons. All of the original filtration equipment has been replaced over its many years and it was re-plastered ten years ago. I...

    Help with high combined chlorine!

Taylor is what I am getting, store doesn't have it in stock despite their website saying so. However, they can get it for me Thursday. I will get a OTO kit just to see what my total chlorine currently is. My water level was a little low so I did add some water.

    Help with high combined chlorine!

Sorry for the delay, I am going to pick up a FAS-DPD test kit at a local pool store in the morning and run tests. Also I can pick up some sodium thiosulfate for 75 cents a pound, should I get some?

    Help with high combined chlorine!

No place for that much water to go in a short period of time. Especially with having a record rainfall this year, water table is really high. Getting more water is easy.

    Help with high combined chlorine!

Oh god, I read you add 10 ppm FC to burn up .10 ppm CC, I messed up the mess up. Draining is not an option, I can barely drain enough for winterization below the skimmer.

    Help with high combined chlorine!

Before 10x shocking with ColorQ DPD testing. FC 2.39 Difficult time getting it much higher with the breach feeder near max. CC .70 PH 7.3 TA 80 CH 400 CYA 31 Next day after 10x shocking with ColorQ DPD testing, probably inaccurate. FC 2.45 CC 1.03 PH 8.2 TA 5 CH N/A CYA 5...

    Help with high combined chlorine!

Thanks, I have had a hard time keeping my FC at 2.5, not sure if its my tester or something been eating a lot of chlorine. My pool has been taking over a gallon of 12.5% a day to keep it above 2.2 FC this summer. Last reading I took today is 2.45, but that is probably not accurate with the...

    Help with high combined chlorine!

I have not had any algae all summer. Just kept the FC above 2.2 PPM with CYA around 30. I only tried shocking/slamming after my CC was getting high and the water was becoming a tad itchy, I don't do it as a normal routine. The stupid 10x approach made things worse.
