    SLAM frustrations

I'm in North Alabama and just finished my opening SLAM and experienced those same numbers. I too could only pull a sample in the Am and than the evening when I returned from work, I would add a little extra bleach in the AM and when I returned in the PM went right into getting it back to SLAM...

After 12 lbs shock and 3 gallons liquid chlorine the green swamp is getting worse!

For what its worth I went through 13 Gal of 10% bleach in 5 days doing my SLAM and had a much lower CYA than you and a smaller pool. With your CYA and pool size I would not be surprise if you went through 20-25 gal of bleach cleaning up your pool.

Hayward 400K Propane - First Use - LOTS of propane!

I would be crapping my pants if I was buying 500 Gal of Propane every 2 months here in AL to heat a pool. I have a 250 Gal tank that feeds a gas log fireplace I used as secondary heat to take the chill off in the winter and fill that tank once a year. Cost $450

    Another year another green pool

Yes, I can clearly see the bottom of the pool and no cloudy water. I did put CYA in the sock and that has dissolved but didn't have any effect on my CYA test. I could run a water sample by the Jewelry store and let them tell me what my CYA number is. I'm also pretty sure I have calculated my...

    TFP opinions of Huntsville AL

Hi Svenpup Did you ever make it out to Huntsville for that exploratory trip? I came to Alabama from LA back in 1968 than left in 1976 (US Navy) and returned in 2010, have always called Alabama home and visited often as this was where my family lived. I think you will discover a big difference...

    Another year another green pool

My CYA is still unreadable using the Taylor K-2600C as the lowest reading on the comparator tube is 30 and I can still see the black dot when the tube is full. For SLAM purposes I have been using a CYA number of 30 for a target FC. Should I add stabilizer now or just wait until my SLAM is done...

Can ya help a newbie out? Reno project, Neon Green Pool, etc

Lot of good advise being thrown your way, my .02 is don't replace anything and repair/service what you have and get the pool online. There is nothing really wrong with the equipment you have and turning the green monster into a clear pool is the easy part. I think you be surprised at how easy...

    Concrete Walkway Question

Had a concrete guy tell me one time if you don't like cracked concrete don't use concrete. Not sure I completely agree with that statement but every house I have lived in has some form of cracks in the concrete.

I hear you loud and clear Pabeader as I think this has been my problem. I starting to wonder if I need to close at all because we only get a few hard freezes a winter and those only last a few days. Now having having said that I have seen temps in the single digits for a week but that is rare...
