    I am so smart. . . S M R T

Yes - when I first wrote the post I think I was going to say something like: >>> after aerating, my TA dropped by nearly 200!! but then when I went to look at it I thought, no, it was the MA so that's why I said: >>> after compensating for the pH increase with MA this morning, my TA dropped...

    I am so smart. . . S M R T

Update: So I kept my rigged aerator running overnight and after compensating for the pH increase with MA this morning, my TA dropped by nearly 200!! I think it will be faster to just aerate out the high TA than to re-start from scratch (drain and re-fill); especially seeing as how my re-fill...

OK so it looks like I got the pH up to 7.6 so we are in 'safe' range again. Checked TA to see what damage was done. . . 600! I cobbled together a very hax aerator - pulling out the return hose and lashing it to the frame with a strong twistie tie and positioning it witha 2x4 block, then...

    I am so smart. . . S M R T

Oh I hadn't read that! I did note that the calculator just said 'aerate' and thougoht 'I can't do that, I don't have anything like an aerator'. That link has a couple of good additional links to DIY aerators, I'll have to get started on this, thanks. And I feel like I know just enough...

    I am so smart. . . S M R T

This is not a request for help, just a story about how dumb I am . . . So I get my pool set up a week or two ago, CYA to 40, Borates to 40, Chlorine and pH all looking fine . . . and then I take a look at my TA. Our water is really high on TA for some reason. Last year I ignored it, and just...

Can I adapt a larger filter hose size to smaller?

This is an x-post from here: filter-pump-head-leaking-t67219.html The biggest question I have is can I somehow adapt a 1-1/2" ID hose from a 1500 gph pump to fit a 1-1/4" ID hose fitting for a pool that came with a 530 GPH pump? Pool is ~ 1400 gal, I have an offer of a pump from friend to fix...

    filter pump head leaking =(

Hi! I just set up a new INTEX pool ~ 3 weeks ago and it's been great so far (especially with help from this board). But I've run into another snag. . . The filter top on the 530 gph filter pump leaks badly. This started happening after I removed it to wash out the filter, and then replaced...

    Can't keep FC levels up

I did use dichlor at the start, and added enough to bring the CYA up to ~ 40 ppm, so I trusted the readings on that. I did take the water in to the pool store today and they confirmed, CYA is at 35, pH is at ~ 8.0, so those readings are pretty accurate. I'll get some solid pH down at the store...

    Can't keep FC levels up

I set up my new INTEX pool a few weeks ago, and tried to follow the rules for setting up seasonal/temporary pools shown in pool school. Everything looks/works great, but I have found that my pool EATS chlorine, even with the recommended levels of CYA. For example, I can put in 11 ppm chlorine...

    Confusion over algaecide & clarifier

LOL, well, what I *wanted* was to only ever use bleach, baking soda, and borax (aka what I *thought* was the BBB method) but I was quickly 'pool schooled' otherwise. I've got the dichlor and bleach ready to go, and I'm shopping around for a good test kit (the HTH 6 way kit that walmart 'sells'...

    Confusion over algaecide & clarifier

Ah thank you. I was hoping to avoid refilling the pool often, but if CH rise is going to be a problem I guess I might have to. Is there any way to combat that other than (a) not using Cal-Hypo, and (b) keeping the pool covered to prevent evaporation? P.S. Any advice on Borate as a...

    Confusion over algaecide & clarifier

OH! My apologies, I thought my question was related to the original question, and that the answer would be useful to the OP there. OK well then, I guess I'm confused about whether or not I need algaecide? I read Pool School, at least the parts that were applicable to me, and came across...

    Confusion over algaecide & clarifier

Split by moderator from HERE. Please start your own thread with your own questions. Thanks, jblizzle I'm confused about this back and forth talk about clarifier because I've been looking to open my pool this year and use a cheaper alternative to the 60% polyquat. I found a 6% solution of the...

Can I get by with ONLY using Bleach, Borax, and Baking Soda?

Re: Can I get by with ONLY using Bleach, Borax, and Baking S No, it's a metal frame. My sister refuses to let me put it on her lawn (she doesn't want a dead spot later) and so I can only put it on her patio. There's ~ 1.5" grade over 8 feet that I can see. We have foam squares under the...
