There is suction but I do get some air cavitation when the valve is all the way to bottom so I think that it telling me that its a bit of a strain. I will try your option. Mike

Oh By the Way the PH sensor according to the user manual has to be replaced yearly as does the battery. I saw no pricing anywhere on those. The sensor must be kept wet at all times even over the winter ( there is a sponge and a door to help). Hope its not like buying a ten dollar camera...
