    algae and phosphates

EXACTLY, I couldn't have stated it better Chem Geek. :!: Living in Orange County California near the beach, I have warm weather 90% of the year and it is the mustard algae that has been the constant challenge. Since I have removed the phosphates, changed to a salt water pool, and installed an...

    algae and phosphates

Re: recurring algae problem I am not sure why you believe that phosphates have no effect on algae growth. Our senior chemist at B. Braun Medical (Manufacturer of IV solutions) disagrees to the contrary and referred me to many studies performed proving the phosphate/algae relationship. One of...

    algae and phosphates

Split from recurring-algae-problem-t69257.html Butterfly Parkerman - What is your phosphate level in the pool? If you don't know, take a sample down to your local pool supply store as they usually will test the sample for free. If your phosphate level is high, you will have to remove it with...

    TF-100 Test Kit Problem

I'm not so sure that the CH is high as it appears that some other chemical reaction is occuring that is interfering with the test, or there is something wrong with the reagents. I'll try adding 5 drops of R-0012 prior to and see what happens.

    TF-100 Test Kit Problem

Yes this is true, I did have high copper content in the water. I completely drained the pool, flushed the plumbing with fresh water, replaced the filters and all of this after I had given the pool a wash with Ascorbic Acid to remove the copper stains. So the pool has all new fresh water. So...

    TF-100 Test Kit Problem

When conducting the Calcium Hardness (CH) test using the TF-100 Test Kit, I get pinkish precipitate in the solution when I add the R-011L reagent. When I then add the R-0012 reagent, I get no color change, regardless of how much I add. I don't add copper algecide to my pool, but I did the...

I am going to sand my pool.

Yes. It slowly started to sluff off as I rubbed the tablet on it. The Chlorine tablet nor the SS brush had this same effect.

I am going to sand my pool.

Yes, I was afraid of this. I am just trying to get a couple more years out of the pool surface before hiring someone to resurface the pool. I do want to treat this stain though, but I don't want to acid wash it for exactly the reasons that you stated. Is there any website I can go to to see the...

I am going to sand my pool.

How is this to be applied?

I am going to sand my pool.

About 3 years in varying degrees, although they are at their worst right now. The hyper chlorination has had some positive benefit though, but I've been doing it for about a month now.

I am going to sand my pool.

I just wet sanded with the finest grit black sandpaper, the kind you use for automotive work, on a small section of the wall. It not only took the black off, but it made the wall more flush instead of rippling like it was and it made it incredibly smooth. The pool was built over 16 years ago...
