I started adding pool salt to our pool this season, but it's unclear to me how much is required to get it to the optimum salt level, (around 2600 I believe). I've added 4 or 5 40 lb bags now and it's made it to 1200. It seems each bag increases the level by 100, if it keeps that pattern that...

Check your hardware stores (Lowe's, Home Depot), I found ours at Menard's but doesn't look like you have any of those there. I also found 10% at WalMart. Our pool store had the higher % too but it cost more there.

Ok thanks, I'll just keep battling the algae, I've put in 7 gallons in 48 hours but I'll keep at it, hope I can have it licked soon! Finally found 15% liquid shock today at Mebards, had been using 10 & 6%.

The alkaline has always been about as high as it is now or in that range anyway. Last season, the pool store told me to use dry acid to bring it down (sorry left that out before) and after going through two bucket fulls of dry acid over time trying to bring down alkalinity it did almost nothing...
