It is like your set up, with the toilet type valve. The equalizer tube is approximately 1” in diameter, and there is a 9” drop from the bottom of the tank to the exit at the pool. It’s about 29” from end to end in the equalizer tube, and about 4 feet of cool deck to the area he root apparently...

I am looking for any suggestions for removing a root growth that is in my auto fill tube from fill to pool. I saw someone else in Arizona posted the same kind of root that I have growing in their bucket. I believe it is from an old Oleander we had removed.
