No longer green, but still cloudy...

Just because I'm curious (and a nerd), what is happening chemically to it right now? I thought the shock just killed the algae and it was cloudy because the algae was dying faster than the filter could process it out. Now I don't understand what the chlorine is doing to clear it up that the...

You all are awesome!! I can see the bottom!!! Still have a couple of days to go, probably, but I'm definitely moving in the right direction! Thank you SO much!

Added bleach and my FC is back up to 26. Thanks for all the help thus far!!!

No longer green, but still cloudy...

OH!!! I thought I kept it at shock level until my overnight FC loss was less than .5!! Ok, I'll go load up on bleach, raise it back up and keep it there. Thank you!!! One more question. I have a solar blanket I'd like to put on. Will that hurt anything?

No longer green, but still cloudy...

I used di-chlor to shock. So I guess that makes sense why my CYA isn't any lower than it is. So I know that would mean I need to keep the FC level higher for it to be effective, but according to the overnight loss test, my algae is dead. But, you're saying that's slowing the clearing process, too?

No longer green, but still cloudy...

I'm sure my problem has been addressed in here, but I can't seem to find it. I apologize up front if I'm starting a new thread on a repeated topic! The problem: A week ago I had a 10,000 gallon swamp; now I have beautiful blue cloudy water that seems to have stopped clearing up. I've kept it...

    White scale in fiberglass pool

Re: White scale in fibreglass pool This problem is the reason (well...one of several) I will never trust a pool store again. They had my pool entered in their computer as being 36,000gallons instead of 10,000. Whenever I'd take a water sample, they always sold me - and told me to use - 3...

    White scale in fiberglass pool

Re: White scale in fibreglass pool Nomad26, I'll be interested in hearing about your results. I have a fiberglass pool with the exact same problem. I'm quite confident the maintenance is what caused the problem. Since I'd tried everything to get get the scale off, I'd kind of decided instead...

    CYA over 100

I have a fiberglass pool (approx 10,000 gal), live in Alabama, and had >100 CYA at the beginning of the summer. Instead of draining the entire pool, I've drained and refilled gradually over the course of a few months. That was mainly from an expense standpoint (re-filling is very expensive for...

    Advice on heating my water

Have all of you installed your solar system yourself, or have you had it done by someone else? I'm relatively handy, but that just seems like a pretty big project.

    Can't clear up the cloudiness

I'm still very new at keeping my water balanced, and maybe what happened to me was a fluke. I had really high CYA, and spent the summer gradually draining water off and filling it back to lower the CYA. Whenever I'd do that, everything would get out of whack. I'd bring the TA back into range and...

    Can't clear up the cloudiness

My water gets cloudy whenever CH is below 100 and TA is above 100. You might find increasing the CH to about 200 will clear it up.

    Advice on heating my water

Thanks mesamav & NYunderground! I think I might have to talk to the pool stores around here as this looks to be a project that I probably couldn't do myself. Solar looks to be a good option for me; especially if I can get a tax rebate on it for being "green". I'll keep researching - thanks for...

    Advice on heating my water

I'm drowning (no pun intended :-D ) in heating information and could use some advice; preferably in terms the newbie pool owner can understand! Here's my current situation: I live in central Alabama and have a light sand colored fiberglass pool, approx. 15' x 34'; 10,000 gallon. In the...

Greetings and THANK YOU from Alabama

Thank you for the welcome! The only recent picture I have on this computer (I'm at work  ) is one I took while I was working on my landscaping, so I apologize for all the limbs on the deck. When I get some better ones, I'll post them. I'm still learning how to add attachments, so in...
