It's been a while since I've had to add salt to the pool. I remember a couple years ago there was some bad salt that I should stay away from, but can't remember what brand it was. Choices local to me : Morton, Sure Soft and Diamond Crystal.

We built a super simple platform, no exact plans, just googled, figured out what we wanted and basically winged it.
