How about disconnecting pipe on up side of pump, but before filter,just until I vacuum up the waste alage,then putting it back ?

I know I need to kill all algae before I start

Will this work if I vacuum in backwash mode ?

I have a sand filter that has a push/pull valve on it and have an algae problem,any chem. to use to get rid of it calls for vacuum to waste,but I don't know if I can do that with this type of valve,cause as far as I can tell it is either in backwash mode or filter mode an6y ideas ?
