Trying to determine what this is (e.g. metal staining, or a specific type of algae) and how to treat it

Thanks guys, I may try running a hose through it tomorrow. I added an inch or two of water and tried turning the pump on, but couldn't find any water exiting the waste line or anywhere within sight. - - - Updated - - - Couldn't locate a shutoff valve either.

Similar phenomenon when valve is open to both pipes (skimmers and main drain). Any way to test the skimmer weir? I tried holding one of the weirs fully open (the one on the skimmer with intermittent suction) but it didn't seem to make a difference.

I'm pretty sure that's the case.
