I'll wait until the weather cools off for sure. Ascorbic acid removes the stains, but the iron will stay in the water, correct? So the stains will come back if the PH gets too high? I've read on this forum an alternative to ascorbic acid (Metal Magic) that works for some people and allows the...

    Stain ID

I have not maintained the pool correctly since we bought this house six years ago, so I don't have any historical readings. I finally got serious, did some research, and found this site. After using pucks with stabilizer for so many years, it became difficult to keep enough chlorine in the...

I tested with ascorbic acid today, and it's definitely iron. Here's a new photo of the same area: No idea what the dark blue specs are, but they aren't very noticeable. There is some scale buildup here too. We're using city water. Any ideas where iron came from? We did get a record...

Sadly, I was using chlorine pucks with stabilizer and a weekly shock using Cal Hypo powder. The pool shock would leave powder at the bottom that I would have to vacuum out, but sometimes it would sit at the bottom for a week or two. Over time, the CYA level became very high. That's when I...

I'm not the original owner. No idea how old the plaster is. We've been in the house for six years, and this discoloration started within the last six months.

Hi everyone! Anyone recognize this stain? This photo is from my top step. The white areas on each side of the tiles are what the plaster used to look like. It's visible in the bottom of the pool too. It's not organic. I haven't tried a Vitamin C test yet. Could it be calcium scale?

Green algae forming with FC in range

I ended the SLAM today. Water looks great. Thanks to everyone for their comments and advice. Now that the water is so clear, the stains on the bottom are easy to see. Topic for another thread...

Green algae forming with FC in range

I just completed an OCLT (overnight FC loss test). FC was 17 last night after dark, and this morning before the sun came up it was 16. CC has been practically zero since I started, and filter pressure has been fine. The water looks cleaner than ever. So I believe it has passed the three...

Green algae forming with FC in range

Thanks for the quick replies! I started a SLAM last night. PH was 7.2 and FC was 4.5 before I began. I checked FC this morning and it was 16.5. Just checked it again and it was 12, so I added more LC. CC has been 0.5 so far.

Green algae forming with FC in range

FC: 5 CC: 0 pH: 7.5 TA: 100 CH: 475 CYA: 40 I just started using TFP about two weeks ago, and my water is looking better than ever. I did an initial SLAM, and my FC levels have been good. However, I've noticed a bit of green algae forming the last two days. I was expecting my FC to be...
