Do not run that motor. Do not pay for that install. Get a real electrician there to hook up your pump properly. Then he can tell you what the other guy did wrong so you have justification not to pay for any labor at the minimum.

Alternatively if you cannot get the tile guys to give you a remedy, the best method to shave off the edge of the tile would be to use a 4" angle grinder with a diamond disc.
