    Hi All I have just opened my hot tub for the season . Am using the dichlor then bleach method so finished with the dichlor, now on to the bleach. I'm in the UK. a value brand of bleach says less than 5% Sodium Hypo, but also 1.5g per 100g. Does this mean anything? Any indicator of strength...

    thanks for that detailed and helpful response I tend to swim in public pools , so think i'll wear goggles when possible. Makes me feel more relaxed about it in my hot tub. Shame I'm so blind really without them. I like to see peoples faces when swimming.

    I wear contact lenses and am scared of acanthamoeba keratitis. It can cause blinding eye infections It is quite common in natural waters, rivers, lakes, but contact lense wear is not recommended swimming for this reason. I think properly chlorinated pools have a low risk of it though...

    Your CYA is high so your FC should always be between 7-10ppm. Shock is 35ppm. You might find you spend a lot on chlorine keeping it at those levels, a partial drain and refill to bring it to 50 cya may help

    Welcome to TFP! Can you post a set of water results? Are you using granular dichlor or liquid chlorine to sanitize? If the former you may have sky high CYA levels limiting the chlorines effectiveness How long since you changed the water?
