What could cause a "sudden" sharp increase in Calcium Hardness?

I've added a total of 5 gallons of cal hyp over the last few months, but that's it. I have also added a few inches of high-ish hard water. The rest must be from plaster I guess. So at this point, what's the solution? If I drain, I'm looking at like 50% of the pool and risk of the shell...

What could cause a "sudden" sharp increase in Calcium Hardness?

The Calcium Hardness in my nearly 3 year old plaster pool was always steadily maintained in the 350 to 400 range. So much so, that I haven't checked it in the last 3 months. That is, until it started to get a bit cloudy and I ran a complete chemical check using the TFP test kit. It is now...

For real, what's going on with my chlorine level?

In case this thread helps anyone, I wanted to give an update after nearly 3 months... I continued to lose CYA for August and most of Sept. However, for the first time since the pool was built, I turned off the heater. Normal temperature range was 90, but we let the attached spa get to 100...

For real, what's going on with my chlorine level?

As an update, I have been keeping chlorine slightly higher than recommended (It took a while to drift down, and for me to dial in the SWG %). Here's something interesting... I noticed that the chlorine level kept rising! (It would drift from 10ppm to 14ppm) requiring me to continually lower...

Why does my pH measurement increase the longer I wait? Is that normal?

When I add the pH indicator, and take a reading, I might measure something like 7.4. I noticed if I don't rinse out the test vial quickly, but leave it alone while performing other tests, it will gradually turn more and more magenta. After say, 5 minutes, it's off the chart magenta. I'm...

Thank you very much for all of your help!

For real, what's going on with my chlorine level?

It's been about a month. I can say that the SWG is now keeping the Fc at the correct level at around 55%. I haven't made any CYA additions, and haven't lost/added any water (and my salt has also been the same level). However, my CYA is currently at 50 (down from 70 a month ago). So I'm going...

    IntelliCenter and SWCG Communication

Good ideas. I do suspect there is a configuration to bypass this error. For me, the reason it switches is because I have a two-body system. So my "pool" switches to "spa" mode and back again on a daily basis to mix and circulate both bodies. Also, if we are using the pool and put on the spa...

    IntelliCenter and SWCG Communication

I've simplified the criteria where the bug is reproduced. I have two schedules. Each turns on the "Pool" at different times. The first works as expected. The second turns on the pool pump, but not the pool relay. This happens *almost every time. Why, the schedule programming is the same...

For real, what's going on with my chlorine level?

Today, CYA was clearly @ 70, which is what I calculated at my last addition. Fc was way too high (15ppm). SWG was at 60%, so I've lowered it. I'm still trying to find the sweet spot between it vs. my pump run time. So far though, everything looks good. Lesson learned, make sure EVERYTHING...

For real, what's going on with my chlorine level?

I just remeasured CYA and it came in at 50. I was expecting it to be 60. Not sure if this is a measurement issue or if I did lose another 10ppm. I added another 2 pounds which should get me to 70.

For real, what's going on with my chlorine level?

Thank you for the reassurance. I was just getting used to the stability, so the sudden deviation threw me. But I guess they call it water "balancing" for a reason!

For real, what's going on with my chlorine level?

So the pool has been at 10 to 11ppm since Wed. with SWG at 60%. II know this is a bit high given my CYA level, but things have been holding so I left the SWG as is. So far so good, BUT, something happened today and I want to make sure everything is still good... This morning the pond behind my...

For real, what's going on with my chlorine level?

Great results today. SWG at 60, running only 10 hours, Fc started at 9ppm and tonight it's 11ppm. Was a bit overcast today, but CYA is only at 60. So it looks like the SWG can easily handle the required chlorine requirements.
