No, they don't brush off. I was able to scrap off pieces using my fingernails on the ones that are on the stairs but even then it's still mostly on on the plaster - I can't scrape it all off...

Thanks, that's what I thought as well and I am following the instructions in the post but the stains haven't lifted. Should I just keep adding more ascorbic acid to the water or does it need to be applied locally to each stain directly? Thanks, Guy
