    Bleach and Vacation

Thank you for the advice, unfortunately as mknauss pointed out, I can't take FC up to 30ppm and let it drift down to 9ppm over 7 days but I will opt for bring FC up to shock level and hope for a minimum level of FC when I return. I know that CYA disapates over time but I hate the thought of any...

    Bleach and Vacation

Thank you, not to be overly scientific but do you know the rate of FC burn off when you're above the target level?

    Bleach and Vacation

Knowing that we will be going on vacation twice this summer, each one for about 7 days, I wanted to ask this question in advance. My current CYA is 60ppm, so I keep my FC in a range of 7-9ppm. I refuse to ever subject my pool to another trichlor puck or dichlor shock again. So with that said...

    Fresh Water set up

What kind of test kit is it? Those you are the experts on this forum will recommend the TF-100 or the Taylor K2006C. I would not rely to heavily on any other test kit and especially not test strips. Please post your results before heading to the store, I assume you mean the pool store. Let...

    Fresh Water set up

You didn't mention if you have a test kit, if not, then your first step would be to order a pool water test kit ASAP. Once you have received your kit and tested the water, you will need to post your results to get further steps. With a pool refill, your biggest concern is going to be adding...

    High CYA

Yesterday I drained 1/4 of the water and refilled, brought CYA from 110ppm down to 70ppm. I can live with CYA at 70ppm. My question is, can I drop to 50ppm CYA with just doing some deep backwashings over the next year? I no longer use pucks and have converted to bleach. I'm aware of my...

    FC/pH Relationship

I'm currently in the process of lowering my CYA (110ppm) due to the use of pucks. I plan to drain water this weekend and refill. Because the CYA is at 110ppm, I have kept my FC at 10.5 - 14.5 in an attempt to make the FC effective against algae. My question is, does having a high FC level...

I just wanted to stop and thank all of those you have replied to my new threads and being patient with questions. I have owned a pool for 15 years and recently found TFP. The wealth of knowledge is incredible. I finally have a source of information other than the pool store where I was...

    Lowering CYA

Will draining 1/4 of my water twice have the same effect on lowering CYA as draining 1/2 of my water once. Don’t want to possibly effect the integrity of my pool walls by draining half of the water at one time as well as incurring a huge water bill.

    Total Alkalinity versus Adjusted Alkalinity

Wondering what the experts have to say on TA versus Adj. TA. My app for Taylor adjusts it for me and I'm aware of the math of how to calculate taking CYA in account. Should I be adding Alkalinity increaser based upon the adjusted alkalinity or rather the TA. Not sure how exact I need to be...

    CYA Formula

I hear so much about draining a pool to lower CYA levels. Is there a formula that exist based upon pool size (gallons), inches of water drained, equating to ppm CYA lowered.

    BBB Method

With the Trouble Free methodology, what do you use to increase TA and pH? With BBB, I would use baking soda to increase TA and borax to increase pH. Somewhat confused between the two methods. I completely understand the bleach and muriatic acid use. Thank you.

    BBB Method

Converting over to the BBB method. Any success or failures related to this method for those you have tried this method?

I have had an ongoing issue with high CYA levels in my pool 150-175ppm. I have recently drained 1/3 of the water and refilled. I also switched from using tri-chlor 3"tabs to sanitizing with liquid chlorine (8.25%). The CYA has been reduced to 80ppm. My question is, if I do nothing more and...
