Need advice! Under contract in NTX.

Very nice! In building mine, I ended up reducing the amount of decking around the pool. Especially in North Texas, where the soil is expansive and a bit unstable, I didn't want to deal with the decking cracking, and expensive replacement. Instead I used several concrete "pads" on one end, and...

    When to run pump?

Just got my electric bill in the first month of our new pool. We have a plan that charges us a higher rate during the day, but electricity is free between 9pm and 6am. I've received conflicting information on exactly when to run the pump - some say it would be fine to run it at night, and some...

    New Pool - Quick Question...

Thanks, drcrimzon - that's exactly the advice I needed. While I'm sure many on this website do a wonderful job of maintaining their pools, some of us (me included) must travel a fair bit. And no matter how proficient you are at pool chemistry, it's hard to apply that knowledge if you are...

    New Pool - Quick Question...

Hi - last weekend we had the grand opening of our brand new, 25k gallon in-ground (gunite) pool. As a part of our build, we had a 2 week startup process with a pool service company. Their last visit was this past Tuesday, so it's been without any service (and testing) for 6 days now. I'm...

Best time to build if it can't be the summer

We are just finishing up the build in Dallas - will be nice to have it for the rest of the summer, but the landscaping (aside from sod) will have to wait til the fall/winter, as you don't want to be planting in the Texas summer. That's potentially a consideration as well...

    North Texas pool people

I'm in Dallas, and almost complete with the build. It's been a rainy spring, and just about everything has been delayed. The plaster crew came today, and left because the gunite was too "humid." I'm sure that's happening with everything - our dig was in the middle of the deluge, and they had...

help! pool ready for pebble and we realized it's too deep!

Your kids will grow up, and they will grow in stature and confidence. They will also want to bring their friends over - if the pool isn't deep enough, they will go to someone else's house... You will be very happy you have this pool, and they will be as well - esp in a couple of years.

    New Pool Build in Dallas

So we passed all the inspections, and have the plaster team ready to plaster on Friday-Saturday. The pool builder recommended Durazzo plaster - it's an expensive upgrade, but he says well worth the extra cost, in terms of longer lasting and better feel than pebble surfaces. Apparently they put...

    Pool wall sitting shelf question

As I recall, the swim out ledge at the 8' end of the pool is not rebar, nor are the steps. Seems like it could go either way.

    Excessive Charges?

PB is coming today to make forms for our decking, which is concrete slabs. It's $9/sq foot in the bid.

    New Pool Build in Dallas

Thanks Suz! Hopefully the rebar will be gone by the weekend... and we will have a fence, and maybe decking... If it doesn't quit raining, I'm going to pump out the pool, seal the holes, and call it an Ark. Pooldv - I think we have the same pool tile. I looked at your build thread - yours...

    New Pool Build in Dallas

Thanks for the replies! BoDarville - it's another $400 for the LED. Thanks for the link on pump operation - I'll dig into that. Texas Splash - That's pretty much the conclusion I came to as well - use it for a season, and then decide. Seems to be 50/50 up here in Dallas. Pooldv - The pump...
