Fresh fill and water has green tint

You mention that you have a spare intex 1500 pump. You could use that (without a filter) to circulate the floc. And then put the return end down the drain to vacuum out the floc and precipitated iron when its fallen to the bottom of your pool.

Fresh fill and water has green tint

I have the same problem with iron. Here is the “nuclear” option if youre able to bypass your filter and vac to waste. ;) https://www.troublefreepool.com/threads/removing-metal-with-flocculant.253355/

    I'm lost 😂

Its possible that pump speed one doesn't generate quite enough flow for your plumbing and equipment. This speed can be adjusted in the pump setup menu or you could try pump speed 2. After priming does the pump show the speed (rpm) of the setting on the display?

    fluctuating psi

It could be caused by air being pulled from the suction side of the pump. Significant air will disrupt the water flow and can cause surging and psi fluctuations. Common causes are low water level (e.g air being pulled into the pool skimmers), leaky unions (especially the union on the pump...

    I'm lost 😂

Also it sounds like your variable speed pump is working fine. :) On speed 1, the pump reverts to a slow speed after priming has finished. Water is still moving, just much more slowly. This saves you money due to the “Pump Affinity Law”. Running a pump at half speed uses an eighth of the...

    I'm lost 😂

As @IceShadow said, you dont have to wait for priming mode to finish before switching operations. You can just turn the pump off whilst it is in priming mode, adjust the multiport and then turn it on again.

New start and run capacitors, but pump motor still fails to start every few days

Given you have changed the start capacitor then I agree the centrifugal switch could be the cause. If it is (intermittently) stuck open then the symptoms would be the same as for a failed start capacitor (inability to start, humming etc) You could also retest both the old and new start...

Problems balancing water after using ascorbic acid, sequesterone and polyquat

It depends on how much ascorbic acid remains in the pool after the treatment. Ascorbic acid is a chlorine neutralizer which is probably why you arent seeing a residual FC. Keep testing and adding small amounts regularly (e.g. 2ppm). When the FC level begins to hold it means the ascorbic acid...

BTW, chlorine has gone up $10 a box

Seems it's expensive everywhere. In Europe the cheapest option is about €5 ($5.50) for the equivalent of a US gallon of 12.5%. Two years ago I paid less than €3.

    Basic automation question

Not many people here would recommend the Pool Frog. The refills are expensive and some have reported that it causes staining in their pool. There are several automation systems available from Hayward, Pentair etc. (e.g. OmniLogic | Automation | In Ground Pool Automation - Hayward Pool...

Problems balancing water after using ascorbic acid, sequesterone and polyquat

It will take much more chlorine than usual to bring the FC up after an ascorbic acid treatment. You need to do this slowly and watch the PH level carefully as high PH risks precipitating the metal again. There is a good step by step guide here: Ascorbic Acid Treatment - Further Reading...

    Removing metal with flocculant

I live in the Netherlands and our town's water supply is provided from a ground source. It contains unusually visible amounts of metal straight from the tap which makes even taking a bath unpleasant. This is my third year of managing this amount of metal in a pool. I've read countless...

    CYA testing...

You could validate your CYA testing by mixing stabilizer into a bucket of water at 200ppm concentration. If that tests low then you have a dud reagent.

    Best Check Valve for Chlorinator

Thanks for the reply. I am in Europe so some of the typical USA manufacturers are not easily available. I am happy to purchase online from the USA and pay for shipping to Europe but I want to be sure that I order something proven before doing so. Do you (or others) have a specific link to a...
