Texas Pool Disaster - Temporary pump and filter?

I made the poor decision of relying on freeze protection during recent winter storm. Freezing didn't take long (my equipment must be in a bad spot). Things started to crack soon after, starting with an extraneous 1" pipe from an old chlorinator. By the end of it all, everything was toast. I'll...

Pentair wall fitting came apart. What type of glue does it need?

The quick connect part of the wall fitting for my Legend came apart. The hose connector (top) separated from the body (quick connect side). My first thought was to use PVC primer and glue, but not sure that's right. Has anyone had a similar issue? Or can someone tell me which materials the...

Pool light light bulb socket tab broken off

I ran into the same problem today. Broken tab is in the socket, covering the center spring (bottom contact). There's a screw (left of center) holding the contact plate in place. The part can be removed. The whole thing is shown in the second picture. Small piece of brass with a slight bend...

    2017 Bleach Prices

The problem lately is finding it on the shelves. I've had to shop around a little and for the area (NW part of Dallas) I've found 121 oz. 8.25% for 2.99 or less. Kroger store brand: 3.29 (2.99 on sale) Target Up & Up: 2.99 (need to try Cartwheel as gio5 suggested) Aldi (Tandil): 2.69 Aldi's...

pool pump makes humming noise and does not pump

Same symptom. Glad I read this and saved a $100 service call. Didn't know the capacitor was needed to start the pump. Mine is attached to the back of the pump (Max-E-Pro) rather than on top. Had a harder time finding o-ring than the capacitor locally. Probably could have gotten both cheaper...

    Extreme Oil Cleanup Help Needed

Since there's some entertainment value in this thread, there's the full story: My neighbor is a good friend and I've been telling him about TFPC for a year. So he's well aware I use straight bleach, no special chemicals. His neighbor's pool had to be drained and power washed because of high...

    Extreme Oil Cleanup Help Needed

You know, in hindsight - where everything is clear - that's exactly what I should have done for this short trip. And I knew that as soon as I got back. Live and learn - share what you learn.

Using Pig Mat to remove oil from pool?

Follow up to my previous post: Extreme Oil Cleanup Help Needed Pig Mats were recommend to me there and in similar incidents. Now that I know more about them I've also got some questions: There are regular pig mats to absorb all liquids (oil and water), and oil-only. Will either one work? Or...

    Extreme Oil Cleanup Help Needed

Thanks for all the quick replies. The plan now is to let the enzymes work over night and clean the filter tomorrow. I should have pig mats tomorrow thanks to free one day shipping at a certain online super store. Once the filter is cleaned I'll SLAM the pool. I've resisted testing with so much...

    Extreme Oil Cleanup Help Needed

I was doing so well just reading everyone's posts and following the TFPC recommendations. Now I need some expert help: This past weekend my neighbor was supposed to add chlorine (bleach) for me. He looked in the wrong place for the bleach and ended up pouring about 3 gallons of old peanut oil...
