Effect of dog swimming in the pool

i have a drain valve between the output of my pump and the input to the filter. Could I run a garden hose from that down into the top of the air inlet pipe and run the spa?

I just re-read your post Dschlic1 - By running water out through the air piping, do you mean just running the spa, or is there something else you are referring to?

Effect of dog swimming in the pool

Update - Have kept the FC at SLAM levels, going into day 10. Still dropping 2-3ppm on overnight OCLT. Pool is crystal clear and CC has been .5 consistently. Have been brushing almost daily, and have run through the spa a few times. We have not used the pool during that time - 0 bather load...

Effect of dog swimming in the pool

Thanks Swampwoman - I was thinking of the same approach, if the dog spends any time in the pool, monitor the FC closely and supplement with a small dose of liquid bleach. I'm new to this and have learned that the SWG can't react quick enough for significant dips in FC. thanks, Joe

Effect of dog swimming in the pool

ok, so, I guess there are differing opinions on this topic :D I'm going to ride out the next few days as the forecast is a bit cool anyway. Come mid week, we'll reassess and if we're still SLAMMING, we'll proceed carefully (rinse off after partaking!) thanks for everyone's input! Joe

Swim or don't swim? Spa or no spa? I guess I'll just wait until I get past the SLAM and let the FC drop.

Effect of dog swimming in the pool

Kim - The pool "looks fine" now. The original problem was that the FC bottomed out to 0 twice. First time the CYA was low, got that to the correct level but the FC kept dropping day to day. Tried increasing the SWG, but didn't seem to catch up. After a heavy day of use, the FC bottomed out...

Effect of dog swimming in the pool

How long will SLAM take? Based on OCLT test results showing a drop of 4ppm, I started the slam process: added a little water to get the level right rinsed the filter cartridge added 10oz of acid to bring PH to 7.5 shut down the SWG based on CYA of 70, added enough liquid chlorine to bring to...

Thx Dschlic1 - im going to try another OCLT and if that still shows a drop in FC, will probably start a SLAM. joe

Effect of dog swimming in the pool

Did a OCLT - yesterday at 5:00pm: FC 9.0 CC .5 this morning at 7:00am: FC 4.5 CC .5 seems like something is consuming FC, but shouldn't the CC have risen? should I re-test tonight? Or start thinking about SLAMing the pool? Are there any concerns with SLAMing a new pool that has been running a...

Effect of dog swimming in the pool

Jim - The SWCG is a Pentair IC-40 which according to the doc is good for a 40k pool and produces 1.4lbs of chlorine per 24 hours. I run it for a minimum of 9 hours during the day, 8am-5pm. I'm fairly sure the FC level will be way up in the morning, after it comes down to 6-7, I'll do a OCLT.
