    Testing methods

Coming late to this thread. I've routinely seen wide differences over the past 3 years between my Taylor test kit results at home and the local pool store's spin tester. The spin test doesn't seem to be consistently high/low for specific measurements - it's just randomly all over the place...

Puzzled..... periodic slight cloudiness, despite SLAMs & high-ish CL levels

Hi Danforth. The cloudiness appears to be unrelated to Ph. But I'll keep an eye out for that, just to be sure. Poolmedic - Tnx for the comment. The SWG cell is plumbed as it should be - just before the returns. Agree that high CYA reduces the effectiveness of the Cl. (I've wondered if...

Puzzled..... periodic slight cloudiness, despite SLAMs & high-ish CL levels

True. But I figure since chlorine is a good oxidizer, it also attacks metal. Anyhoo.. it'd be nice to find that I've been a bonehead and missed some explanation for the underlying issue. :)

Puzzled..... periodic slight cloudiness, despite SLAMs & high-ish CL levels

One thing I worry about ("worry" is probably overly strong), is whether keeping FC high... like in the 7-8ppm range will seriously shorten the life of our brand-new Hayward heater, and anything else that's metallic. So it would be nice to find a 'real' solution, so we could enjoy a pristine...

Puzzled..... periodic slight cloudiness, despite SLAMs & high-ish CL levels

Sorry - old signature, from before I became addicted to testing & using DPD for FC tests. :) I test myself w/ Taylor kit every 1-2 days. (I also go to the pool store, but just use their info as a sanity check for CYA, CH and TA.... that I test myself ~weekly). There are a couple of good...

Puzzled..... periodic slight cloudiness, despite SLAMs & high-ish CL levels

Should have mentioned... We run the filter for 7-10 hours/day, depending on the water temp. Typically 5-7 hrs during the daylight, and 2-3 hours starting around 12AM. There's generally minimal fluctuation in the FC level throughout the day/night. Filter & SWG cell are well-maintained...

Puzzled..... periodic slight cloudiness, despite SLAMs & high-ish CL levels

Greetings! I've appreciated all the great info on this site for ~4 years now.... kudos to everyone! I'm wondering what the cause(s) may be for recurring slight cloudiness. This happens each summer here in Florida (pool temp in the 80s). I've SLAMed many times, adhering to the SLAM...

    How much flow needed

Thanks folks! There is indeed a T in the PVC w/ a sensor screwed in, just upstream from the salt cell. I had assumed it was a pressure or temp sensor for the gas heater, but could well be a flow sensor. Time to do some googling.... Tnx again!

    How much flow needed

Thanks! Curious about a few details: So the system only applies power to the salt cell when there's adequate flow, correct? (Anything else that that sensor controls?) Is that 'required', and installed in essentially all Hayward SWG systems? Or is it up to the discretion of the builder...

    How much flow needed

Related question: Is there a flow sensor in the Hayward T-15 cell (or perhaps a sensor that's typically in-line, outside of the cell), that only allows the cell to be powered when there's sufficient water flow? Reason for asking is I was a bonehead and left my multiport valve at 'waste'...

Hayward NorthStar seal / motor question...

Hi folks - Would appreciate your savvy. (My first forum post - apologies if I have a duplicate!) My NS had a slow drip from the area around the vicinity of the seal plate. Worked and sounded fine otherwise. My pool guy (who I respect) said it was the shaft seal, and said I shouldn't...
