Why would my FC go higher than anticipated

The most likely explanation is that the reagent is expiring or expired. This may actually be a time where free tests at the pool supply are worth something. I wouldn't trust them for calculating what to add, but if you stop by and have them test the water and it is in the ball park of what...

    CYA review

Whoever oversees the quality of Robelle products seems to do a decent job. I have used that stabilizer with good success as well. Also, I recently replaced my vacuum hose with a Robelle hose and it is also of very good quality as compared to some others of similar cost.

    Degradation of Cyanuric Acid (CYA)

I don't know why, but I lose CYA all year around. I know that there is evaporation, splash out, rain, backwashes, etc. In any case, I lose about 10 ppm per month. I have every year I have had the pool.

    High CYA

The math is linear. If you have a 35K gallon pool and want to get from 90 CYA to 60, drain about 11-12K gallons, or a third of your pool.

how many pucks to increase cya from 20 to 40-50

Pool Math says one 8 oz puck adds 1.3 ppm to 26k gallons. So that’s a about 15-16 pucks. 7-8 more for to get to 50.

    Outdoor Speaker System

I considered installing speakers, but in reality, our JBL portable BT speaker sounds amazing in the context of outside audio and plays far louder than I would ever turn it up in our neighborhood. Plus it has the added benefit of attending picnics, cookouts and another other outdoor gathering we...

    SWG costs

My Stenner setup has performed flawlessly, but I do still have to lug three very heavy cases of chlorine around the house to the tank every 3-4 weeks. It's exponentially better than hand dosing, but I have to think SWCG would be better even if there were some added costs.

Started my 18x16 deck. Have a few questions

I slide my decking under the rails. I thought It was a cleaner look and was concerned that continuously splashing the end grain with water would accelerate rot.

    Automated Testing

I believe that if a proven automated testing system came on to the market that produced validated results, TFP would embrace it with open arms. But it hasn’t. TFP isn’t dogmatic, it’s just that the supported methodologies produce desirable results. If someone can make it easier, no one will be...

Need to Retest CYA During a SLAM?

CYA, won’t change rapidly unless you exchange a lot of water. It will degrade over the sunny parts of the summer.

    Ideal time to run pump/filter

If your electric company offers lower rates for consuming electricity off hours, then that’s your answer. Otherwise, it doesn’t matter much. My pool seems far more likely to get used in the later part of the day, so I run it during the day because I want it skimmed for my swimmers. But, I don’t...

    Cloudiness that wont go away

Those results sound like they came from a pool store, but if your CYA is really 150, you’re never going to be able to properly maintain free chlorine in the water to prevent algae. Do you chlorinate with dry pellets or pucks? if you can confirm those results with your own testing, your best bet...
