AutoPilot - pump off for maintenance

Had a go at it again. In addition to disconnecting the control board, I removed the button cell in an effort to erase volatile memory. It's early days yet but so far the system has run for 2 days without throwing the "Pump off for Service" fit. Contrast that with tripping about every hour...

    Continuous Problems

Think you need to take a few deep breaths and then give us a few more details of your current problem(s). How have you determined that you are not producing chlorine? What are the readings when you do a self test on the system?

AutoPilot - pump off for maintenance

    Autopilot DIG-220 Check/Clean Cell

bahamabob, The line about ebay is a hyperlink, so just click on it and it will take you to the item which is still available on ebay today. Just had to change the fifth capacitor of the group shown in the photos as the system started giving a different error message 3 years now since last...

AutoPilot - pump off for maintenance

This problem resurfaced after changing the relay and has plagued me intermittently for the last 4 years. Did an inspection of the control board and noticed a defective 1000uf, 16v capacitor which I replaced. Hopefully this solves the problem. Will report after a period of running the system.

    DIG 220 Intermittent Error Messages

Bad news for Pool Pilot Dig220 owners: Your unit in all probability is afflicted or prone to power board problems due to failed/failing capacitors. Good news for Pool Pilot Dig220 owners: The unit is easily and inexpensively repairable by anyone with minimal soldering skills. Overall score...

What's the temperature rating of those capacitors? I got those rated at 105C but saw plenty rated for 85C. Figured the higher heat tolerance would be an asset in that enclosed box with 2 tiny fans.

Think you may have missed 1; pattern is 4 bad caps. 3 grouped together on left and the upper of the 2 to the right of those.

    Autopilot DIG-220 Check/Clean Cell

I purchased some replacement capacitors from Ebay and installed them on the power module board. The system went back to its happy self; now self testing at 20 Volts 6.5 Amps for power level 2. Was quite an easy fix taking about 40 minutes from shut down of the system through opening up the...

    DIG-220 check system error

One more thing, given that you are getting 0 volts you may have a blown fuse. the system does carry more than 1 fuse (think its 3 off the top of my head). The fuse thingy if true, would be in addition to the busted caps.

    DIG-220 check system error

Mcigreenville, It's been a few months since your post and i'm not sure what route you took regarding solving your problem. (New power supply unit; power module board; still have problem; etc) If you search this forum, you will see that your problem is similar in nature and cause to what many...

    Autopilot DIG-220 Check/Clean Cell

I've spent some time reviewing this subject on TFP. Found several instances and photos posted. Seems like this is a known problem which Poolsean promised to take up with the engineering department from back in 2009 to see if there was a pattern. Well there is a pattern. It is always the same...

This shows the bulging caps. The 3 on the upper left and the upper of the 2 to the right of those. Note the color compared to the light blue of the undamaged cap.

    Autopilot DIG-220 Check/Clean Cell

Thanks Poolsean, I am located in the Caribbean and the temp is not an issue (mid 80's) Salt is currently at 2900 ppm verified with Taylor salt test kit. I just opened up the system to see what's going on. There are 4 bulging and discolored capacitors on the power board. C1, C26, C27 and C28...
