Paint now to buy time to save for plaster?

Just the side walls above the ledge in the last picture are fiberglass, so no plaster over that part.

Paint now to buy time to save for plaster?

The paint in our pool is worn off in lots of places exposing the concrete, so it's obviously time for something to be done about it. We just bought this house back in July and I'm not even sure the last time it was painted. Based on my research I'd like to plaster the pool but the cost is pretty...

Pool cloudy after 3 straight days of rain

Passed an overnight test. FC down to 11 from 12 with a CC of 0. There shouldn't be anything outside draining into the pool, it's surrounded by pavers and I don't see anything flowing down from the flowerbeds or yard. It just slowly got cloudy over the course of the 3 days of rain. Pics...

Pool cloudy after 3 straight days of rain

Pool has turned murky after raining for 3 days straight. Tested FC/CC around noon today then the rest of the numbers a few hours later to make sure there wasn't something off: FC 3.5 CC 0 CYA 30 TA 110 CH 300 With so much cloud cover and the lower temps FC hasn't seemed to drift lower very...

First time pool owner, sanity checking my numbers

Pool is much, much clearer now. The reflection on the water in the pictures actually makes it look less clear than it is. I couldn't find a quarter close by or I would have tossed it in and told you guys which face it was: http://imgur.com/a/aN17W Gonna keep the SLAM up for another day just to...

First time pool owner, sanity checking my numbers

Passed the overnight test last night: Last night 2130 FC = 13.5 This morning 0800 FC = 12.5 CC = 0.5 There's finally a slightly noticeable difference in clarity in the shallow end now: http://imgur.com/a/IrMbG Just going to keep it up with the SLAM and DE in the filter until it clears up...

Loss test this morning: 2130 last night: FC = 13 CC = 0 0730 this morning: FC = 11.5 CC = 0 Almost there, although the pool still as murky as ever: http://imgur.com/a/SXgAj

I haven't seen any evidence of mustard algae, although I can't see deep enough in the pool to tell if there's anything on the walls. But from what I can tell I don't think MA is likely. At this point it's likely just a shortage of POP, I've eliminated pretty much everything else .

I'll be the first to admit that I'm probably being a little impatient :D. I think if I hadn't seen the pool water clear before it turned again a couple days later at the very start of this process then I wouldn't be as frustrated. If I still don't see any progress in the next few days I may...

First time pool owner, sanity checking my numbers

If I'm high-balling my CYA at 30, I'm probably already pushing past my SLAM levels at 12-13 if my CYA is actually closer to 20. To me this seems like an issue with filtering if my FC is getting close to holding during an overnight loss test, but then again I'm brand new to this stuff so maybe...

First time pool owner, sanity checking my numbers

I have thought about cleaning out the sand, but the only thing that has me puzzled is that the previous owners had the pool professionally opened and they were able to get it cleared up from a green swamp in 6-7 days. Given that, I would think the filter sand should be operational. Something...

Went from FC 13 CC 0.5 at 2200 last night to FC 10.5 CC 0 at 0730 this morning. Still zero difference in water clarity though: http://imgur.com/a/OpGs3

First time pool owner, sanity checking my numbers

I'll start taking some pictures, but my gauge so far has been being able to see the fourth step which has been consistently hidden since the beginning. I would think 5 days into a SLAM when FC is at least holding somewhat well I would be able to consistently see the shallowest part of the pool...

First time pool owner, sanity checking my numbers

I guess the fundamental question I have here is should I be seeing incremental progress in water clarity, or is this something that happens mostly towards the tail end of the SLAM process? This being my first season as an owner I'm just trying to get a handle on what's "normal" while doing my...

First time pool owner, sanity checking my numbers

I've been writing my numbers down in a notebook, been meaning to make it a spreadsheet so I can chart it and get a better idea of a trend. For example, yesterday: Using 121oz 8.3% Chlorox Performance bleach 0730 brought FC up to 12.5 1100 FC = 11.5. added half a jug 1400 FC = 8.5. added 1.5...
