    Solar Cover Questions

Glad I found this thread. I'm considering the purchase of a solar cover for my 24' round above ground pool. The spring weather has been great, so I uncovered early. We've gotten some use out of the pool on some mid-80 degree farhenheit days where the water hit 81 degrees. But the nights are...

Hints of Algae...do I go to a full SLAM assault?

Just curious- how did you make out? I'm going to a pool party today at a friend's house who went through the same exact thing. Not sure if I should let my kids swim in the pool. Hopefully they won't be offended when I show up with my test kit.

    I'm Done SLAMing!!!

Thanks to all- I watched it work....I'm a believer! All three tests passes- CC is 0ppm, overnight test resulted in virtually no loss in FC (less than .5ppm) and the water is crystal clear. So- I had to jack my FC level up pretty high to match my CYA. My CYA hit 90 yesterday so I brought up...

    CYA and Puck Fed Chlorinators

Yup- and that's where I am at right now. I'm SLAMing. My concern is that I've been maintaining a FC level of 28 ppm based on a CYA of 70. I didn't shut off my chlorinator and added two pucks yesterday because it was low. Checked my CYA today and it's up close to 90. Should I adjust my FC to...

    CYA and Puck Fed Chlorinators

Ugghhh- thanks. Will it decrease if I lower the dial? I see an SWG set up in my future....

    CYA and Puck Fed Chlorinators

Hi all- quick question- If I go up with the dial to increase the chlorine, will the CYA go up as well?

So the slamming process seems to be working. I measured a CC level as high as 1.5 yesterday and my last three CC level readings were all < .5. My bleach additions are going down overtime to keep the FC at shock level (which is 28 given my CYA of 70). But I lost 6ppm overnight between 10PM and...

So I'm slamming the pool....yay! Quick question- I'm using a Taylor FAS-DPD test kit. To check the FC and CC, I'm using the 10mL sample. Add two dippers of the DPD Powder, swirl and then I'm adding the titrating reagent drop wise......counting and swirling until it turns clear. I get it...

Ouch. So just add household bleach or liquid chlorine?

Thanks again- quick question- We are expecting rain tonight and tomorrow. Let nature take it's course and begin slamming after the rain? Or should I slam it right away?

Thanks Abigail- I have a Taylor FAS-DPD kit and yes, my chlorinator is a puck feeder. I'll check out the "slam" process.
