Pump motor shuts itself off after running briefly

I have a Jandy FloPro pump, part number FHPM.75 It has a single speed Century Centurion motor that is labeled as 0.75 HP with a 1.31 service factor for 0.98 total motor HP. It was installed by the previous homeowner, but I believe it is around 12 years old. Today it started to shut itself off...

    WaterGuru - A Test

That’s too bad. I have no problem with things that have added benefits from being connected, but things that require “the cloud” to function aren’t for me. Though, I guess in this case it wouldn’t much matter. You have to buy the test cartridge refills from them anyway, right? So if they ever...

    WaterGuru - A Test

Does the App communicate directly with the sensor or does it require communication with the company? I’m wary of internet connected devices that become paper weights if the company closes.

Ammonia at opening. What am I doing wrong at closing?

After clearing out all the Ammonia (it only took 17 gallons of 12.5% versus 25 from last years opening. Improvement!) The SLAM itself went pretty quickly and I never had a lot of combined chlorine. I’m guessing that meant the bacteria had done their thing last fall, then starved/froze over the...

Ammonia at opening. What am I doing wrong at closing?

I just had another thought. The pool has an automatic cover. Could it be dirt or organic material in the recess where the cover retracts that’s harboring the bacteria? I don’t think I’ve ever really cleaned that out…

Ammonia at opening. What am I doing wrong at closing?

We do have two dogs, but they don’t go in the pool. The water has been reasonably clear both years. It’s been a little cloudy, but I’ve still been able to see the main drain in the deep end. It’s never had a hint of green or any other color though.

Ammonia at opening. What am I doing wrong at closing?

I’m not in a rural area, but the pool is in a wooded yard. Even with the cover on over the winter, plenty of leaves and other organic material makes it into the pool between when I close and when I open.

Ammonia at opening. What am I doing wrong at closing?

This is the second year in a row that I have had high Ammonia levels when I’ve gone to open my pool (8 PPM Ammonia, 0 FC, 0 CYA). Before closing, I SLAMed the pool and added PolyQuat at the startup level and verified my CYA level, per the Pool School book. Is there anything else I can do to...

Little Giant Pool Cover Pump Erratic Behavior- SOLVED

Just a little thread necromancy. I sprung a couple of bucks to buy the following microswitch as a replacement: XGG2-88Z1. The difference between the XGM (original) and the XGG I purchased was the force required to actuate the switch. The XGG only required a little more force, so I was hoping...

Closing in-ground pool that eats CYA?

I’d checked the CYA a few times over the summer, and it had held. I did let the FC drop which I’m sure brought on this last bit of Ammonia. The pool has never once been green, even when it has Ammonia. I didn’t have the Ammonia test kit last year. I guess I’ll double check it is at zero when...

Closing in-ground pool that eats CYA?

Just wrapping up the third summer with my pool. I’ve always had trouble with CYA disappearing. Apparently it is susceptible to whatever baddie that turns CYA into Ammonia. When we opened it this year, it took over 30(!) gallons of 12% bleach to balance all the Ammonia that had built up over the...

Little Giant Pool Cover Pump Erratic Behavior- SOLVED

The micro switch on my pump just died I think. At least when I open everything up and toggle it by hand, the pump doesn’t turn on. However if I tilt the pump one way it turns on and if I tilt it the other it turns off. The part number on the switch is XGM2-88Z1. I haven’t found a replacement...

Do I have an Ammonia problem?

Just a final week later follow-up. The pool did pass the OCLT and the FC has been slowly drifting down (7.5 today) while the CC has been either 0 or 0.5. I just need some sunnier days to Lee the cover open to burn off that last bit of FC. My CYA has been steady at 30 as well, so I think I may...

Do I have an Ammonia problem?

I’m hoping I’m not jumping the gun here, but I may have finally gotten all the Ammonia. I’ve hit the pool with 4 more gallons of 12.5% today. I just tested it an hour after adding 2 gallons, and my FC was at 16.0 and CC was 0! My CYA is still 30, so I overshot my SLAM target a bit. That’s...
