Ok. I have added a few gallons muriatic acid in64 oz increments and now have the pH around 7.2 with a TA of 140. With the rate it has been going, I am going to add another 64oz and should have a TA around 120 in the AM with my pH being stable at 7.2 as I am running my bubblers constantly to help...

Since the vitamin c did not work, what should my next step be? Should I try a few more or go with a higher shock? Or get the pH balanced first?

I tried rubbing a 500mg Vitamin C tab on it and it didn't appear to help at all. Did I purchase the correct product? I just bought the OTC vitamin C at the pharmacy. I agree though, I really thought it was a metal stain.
