Planning phase for new pool-Advice appreciated

SWCG requires investment and time to maintain. Why bother...sanitizing with liquid chlorine is cheaper and requires less time.

Fiberglass or vinyl questions-& house structure ques.

I had a Viking fiberglass pool installed last year. As I recall, Blue Hawaiian is owned by Viking. I'd be more concerned with the builders experience and reputation. Good pool + bad installer = disappointment  My family was at a swim party recently. The host has just had a new gunite...

Fiberglass owners... does your pool have any gelcoat cracks?

Re: Fiberglass owners... does your pool have any gelcoat cra I had my Viking FG pool installed last summer...no cracks to report. And I just got out of the pool after scanning every inch with a mask :)

    Fiberglass Pool Quote

I'm no fan of handrails or SWCG's :| I don't see specs for a pool cleaner...can't imagine pool life without my Polaris 280! You'll notice I run a really big cartridge filter....cleaning it once a season is a plus. Also, I don't think that's quite 20K gallons either.

    Adding Borates

Thanks for the confirmation...my expectation was my initial test would come back with 0PPM. I've only used BBB...wait, I wonder if my builder added a product with borates at start up? Regardless, your advise makes sense. Use my test results with Jason's Pool Calculator...and proceed with...

    Adding Borates

In my second year of pool ownership, I've decided to add borates. I tested my fill water with the LaMotte borate test strips and it reads at 10PPM. Question: Is it likely my fill has about 10PPM borates? Or is this a baseline for 0PPM? I know this isn't "rocket science"...I just don't want to...

    High chlorine

This is my first winter....water temp is 52* and chlorine consumption is real slow. I'm adding about 40 oz of liquid 10% a week and easily maintaining 5PPM FC :-D

Viking vs Water World FiberGlass Pool

I looked at both Viking and Leisure fiberglass pools. Talking to installer's for both was enlightening. In the end I decided the installer was more important than the manufacturer (warranties being similar). My family has been enjoying our new pool this summer...and I'm enjoying the benefits...

Weird test results from Leslies (bear with me)

Ya, my fill TA tests at 320. This is my first season and I've been working my TA down so I can add borates (for feel). I've knocked it down to 160 after 6 weeks....but with my fill water so high....I'm thinking I may not be able to get it down to my goal. At least not during the swim months...

Where can I order wrought iron fence panels from?

I just installed Ultra aluminum fencing around my pool area.....http://www.ultrafence.com/fencing.html There're several vendors....I went with http://www.aluminumfencespecialists.com/. The customer support is great. Highly recommend them.

    FC Dropping Slow After Shock

My water is clear and CC is .5 or below....but I lost about 2.5ppm doing the OCLT. Shocked it to FC=17 last night...tested it tonight and I'm at FC=15. So, I guess my question is, how long should it take my FC to drop to my target (FC=5)?

Adding Salt to Liquid Chlorinated Pool

Hello....I have very hard fill water....thinking of adding salt to improve the water feel. I chlorinate with liquid....will adding salt impact testing or chlorine consumption? Negative aspects of adding salt to a liquid chlorinated pool? Thanks!

    Generic Bleach vs Chloine

New pool owner question... When I do the math....the 10% chlorine I can get at HD is a better value than generic 5% bleach. If only because I need twice as much as the 5% stuff. Am I missing something here?
