What did you do to your pool today?

Tested and added 40oz bleach this morning.
Swam with the boys round lunchtime in beautiful sunshine.
3" rain in afternoon and more coming. Had to give the pool overflow some assistance.
Just another Texas pool day.

Tested CYA. 50! I keep trying to sneak up on 70 and my CYA keeps sneaking outta my pool! Sock is in the skimmer, squeezed twice so far. Netted out a few leaves and snails and brushed the pool. It looks fantastic! 79* supposed to be sunny and mid-80s tomorrow and all week. Tomorrow might be our first pool day of the summer! Time to break out the plastic cups!

Well, the Sun was scarce yesterday, but we went for some good swimming.

Robot has been working double duty the last few days with night time thunderstorms shredding the trees. But, that's what he's for. I did some experimentation with the handle angles, so I think I figured out some things for sure now.

Well, let's see...where do I start...since today was the first nice seasonable day we've had in...oh, I don't know how long...

Here's what I did to my pool today:
  1. Did a full suite of tests. All parameters were in the range of what we recommend except for CYA - not surprised with all the water dilution from 16+" of rain this month. On the plus side, I was able to keep FC within spec - actually on the upper side of the maintenance range.
  2. Added CYA to the pool using granular CYA & the sock-in-the-skimmer method. It all dissolved by the end of the day
  3. Ran the pool heater in several cycles to get the water up to 80°F. This is still below seasonal norms but the warmest it's been this year.
  4. Ran the pump for about 8-9 hours
  5. Added some cellulose fiber to my sand filter. Although I could clearly see the bottom, the normal sparkle wasn't there - likely due to some very fine particles washed in due to runoff with the 16+" of rain we had this month. Before the end of the day, the normal sparkle had returned. BTW, I use this product only on an as-needed basis.
  6. Cleaned out the skimmers and pressure-side vacuum filter
  7. Brushed the pool

In addition to all of that, I gave the yard a little attention:
  1. I replaced the auto-feed trimmer head on my Echo weed whacker with a professional Rapid-feed trimmer head and then tried it out - worked great.
  2. Edged the yard

Still found time to work out, take the dog for a combo walk/run, and, at the end of the day, a swim.

Tested FC and PH in the AM, added bleach. Emptied skimmers, rinsed knee highs, emptied out the polaris bag, skimmed the pool.

Vacuumed the inground spa... it gets neglected.

Pulled off some loose tile. My shell is deteriorating on the side that only has dirt on the other side of the coping. I'm guessing 30 years of freeze/thaw cycles are worse when you don't have a pool deck all around the pool.

Laid in my pool for several hours and enjoyed the balanced, crystal clear water. My pool is 83 degrees without the use of my heater and I'm loving the heat wave. My plants are not loving the heat wave.

Tested FC in the evening to make sure all is ok.

My two cents: careful with cellulose. I MUCH prefer and recommend DE!!!
There are many members that use either DE or cellulose as a supplement to a sand filter. Some pool/filter combos work better with one over the other. I chose the cellulose first mainly because it doesn't have the breathing risks of DE and got good results with it. With that said, I only use this product on an as-needed basis - usually in the spring due to either fine blown-in silt (in dry & windy years) or fine debris from runoff like this year with 16+" of rain this month alone. A 3 lb. bag of cellulose fiber will last me 3-4 years.

FC was down to 2.5 tonight. Shame on me. 3 is my minimum. Back up to 5+ with a gallon of bleach.

Also fixed neighbors leaky valve. Hopefully can get them on the TFP bandwagon eventually...

Whatever works. Pools are all different. I used cellulose twice in the past and both times my sand turned to sticky goo. For me? DE carefully.

Did some sock squeezing, it's almost done. Emptied skimmers, pump basket and cleaner bag. Brushed the pool, mostly just to work up a sweat so I could get hot enough to jump in the 78* water. We spent a few hours hanging out by the pool, first time this spring. It was still chilly though, I think the high temp was 75 or so. Had to stay in the sun.

Well yesterday at 2pm I started to install a skimmer. Needless to say all was going ok despite the light rain showers while I was in the pool. Fast forward to 6pm. Started filling and discovered some leakes at the hose. Sat and pondered what I would do. So I removed all the pvc adapters I glued together so I could use the hose that came with my pump. By this time it was dark and I was tired from other things I had been doing since 5 am. Well after sleeping on it I got up this morning and fixed it all without my adapters.

Raised FC from 3 to 4. First year of most tests within proper ranges, so finally learning this season what daily chlorine demands my pool has. Put solar cover back on in anticipation of a few days of rain. (Nowcast is a few days of torrential downpours!). Searched this site for how much to worry about water overflowing coping, in case we get localized downpours of 2 to 3 inches per hour. After a May filled with sunny, warm, yet low humidity days, it's payback time now!

Swam like a mid-summer day yesterday. 82 degree water. Then 3" of rain last night pulled lawn furniture out of pool and cleared driveway of a downed tree. House is rockin' again tonight with MN's assistance. Reset pump breaker that tripped last night on a too close strike. Dog is not so sure about the festivities of this evening. Watching the pool drain over the lowered end at cover into the pit.
