Wybot C1 Review

It struggles a bit on what the Chinese call a "freeform pool" in the manual, honestly... It's likely a better unit for a rectangular pool. Having said that it's working pretty darn well for the price so far.

We drop it in different places every time and have it go at it. I might change the pattern to star shaped later on.

Maybe put it on your retrieval hook and drop it in the center of pool on star pattern and see what it does. Star pattern in my rectangular pool seems to try and find where center of pool is 🤷‍♂️

Are any WYBOT C1 users experiencing an issue with the app? For some reason, the app wouldn’t connect to my robot and change modes, then all of a sudden logged me out. Now the app is giving a timeout error or a couldn’t connect to server error. Ive uninstalled and reinstalled app but same deal. I’ve logged an issue with CS but don’t have high hopes

Was the C1 plugged into the charger? Mine only connects when plugged in. That might be in the manual. I don't think I read that far.

Yes, it was plugged in. I was finally able to get it to work, but it was odd and doesn't really make any sense. I ended up disconnecting from my home wifi on my phone, then it allowed me to sign back in to the app, then had to reconnect to wifi to get the robot to respond. I was worried I was about to be stuck in wall only mode. Probably why they added the feature to change cleaning modes directly on robot as well as the app on Pro version.

I recently bought the C1 Pro but I'm having issues with the cycle mode. I selected the option to run 40 minutes every 24 hrs for 3 days but the C1 continued working beyond the 40 minutes until running out of battery, about 2h in total.
Does anybody know if the type of pool or any other setting prevents the cycle setting from working?

Assuming the app works the same way with the C1 Pro, you might need to set the desired mode multiple times until you see a message that says something like "Successfully Sent!". The handshaking protocol is not as smooth as it should be.

Knock on wood, my C1 is still working well, and the fact that it can coexist with the Betta and clean multiple times during the week is a huge plus. I use the Active 20 maybe once or twice a month now to go after the really fine particulates.

Sure, let me know how it goes. Thank you very much!
Sorry for the delayed response, was traveling and didn't get to it before leaving. I just tried it and it worked fine, cleaned for 30 min then parked. Just to note, this is a C1 Pro that I have

I've had the C1 for about a month now and the only issue I've had is that on full wall/floor cleaning mode the C1 is a bit too powerful as it makes it up onto our baja step (not an issue) but then it gets to the short walls on the step and was sucking up a bit to much air for my liking.

I have been running it on floor only mode, the schedule of 60 min/day for 2 days, and on the star shaped pattern. I tried all the different floor patterns and the star shaped one is noticeably better and gets pretty much everything on the floor in most runs. I drop it in on the edge at the center of the pool, it then moves to around the center of the pool and starts the cleaning pattern. No issues with charging or using the app so far. This is the first cord or cordless robot I've had and am very happy with it especially for the price.

Chiming back in here about customer service or lack thereof. I’m still having issues with the app that do not make any sense, but at least I’ve found a work around on my own for now. Customer service has yet to respond to several emails/calls that I’ve put in. The robot has worked great so far at cleaning the pool, but the lack of CS has me wanting to return it for a refund and get something else. Just a fair warning to any on the fence about purchasing one of their units.

I used to use a Barracuda G3 cleaner and last year I dumped the Barracuda for a Maytronics Active 20. The Active 20 worked reasonably well, but the wall cleaning was really disappointing. It would rarely manage to climb the wall all the way to scrub the tiles, instead slipping off the wall and back down most of the time, only cleaning the tiles in occasional spots here and there.

Anyway, I never took the battery powered vacuum cleaners very seriously until I heard forum members talking about the Aiper Scuba S1 and giving it similar plaudits to the Betta. I considered getting the S1, but I have a kidney-shaped hopper bottom pool and the complaints about the S1 sometimes having difficulty with that kind of pool was a real concern.

During my research I found the Wybot C1, which seemed to be more or less in a similar class, less expensive than an S1, and the reviews didn't seem to complain about pool shape or slope, so I figured for $400, I might as well take a chance.

In short, it wildly exceeded my expectations. It completely blows away the much more expensive Active 20 at wall climbing and waterline scrubbing. It's not even close. It'll climb the wall until it's vertical a couple feet below the water line, pause, and then the impeller will appear to kick into high gear to increase traction and then it'll go right on up to the surface and get to work. It has a dedicated wall mode where it'll just scoot to the right and repeat around the perimeter of the pool.

It cleans the bottom just fine, and it does a much better job than the Active 20 at climbing steps and cleaning them as well (though brushing steps is still a good idea either way). No issues whatsoever climbing from the deep end to the shallow end of the pool.

The basket is roughly similar to the Active 20 with a hinged bottom. You can't swap out the mesh sides but it has a much better no-return flap than the Active 20 does, so it appears to be better at sucking up leaves where the Active 20 sometimes sucks them up and sometimes pushes them around. I'll follow up in the fall when leaf pickup will be a lot more challenging. There is no fine pleated filter mesh option like the Active 20, so that's a point in Maytronics' favor. Putting the basket back in the robot is a little bit fussy until you get used to the right angle to use. Once you have that down, it's fine.

The app is mandatory if you want to change settings, so something to think about there if you have an aversion to apps. Speaking of which, there are a variety of modes and patterns (different wall patterns, different floor patterns) to select from so you can find whatever works best for your situation. You can even select from a variety of pool shapes and materials in the app, but I'm not sure if the pool characteristics actually affect the robot at all. The app can sometimes be a bit fussy in that it's sometimes confusing about whether the robot picked up the mode switch or not. My advice is to set the desired cleaning mode and pattern, wait for the app to say "Successfully Sent!" and then let it get to work - but double check to see that the robot is behaving consistently with the requested mode.

One very nice feature the app provides is "scheduled cleaning". The robot will set aside 120 minutes of its 150 minute putative run time and split it up across 2,3, or 7 days for floor cleaning only (no walls). This is a really fantastic feature and since the robot is cordless, it's much more practical to leave the robot in the pool 24/7 - no ugly tangled cords running around the pool and the Betta and C1 coexist peacefully throughout the week. The pool has never been this clean day after day with minimal effort on my part before. I typically use 3-day mode and bring up the robot to charge in the middle of the week when I get back from work before dropping it back in the next morning.

Unfortunately, these schedules are "take it or leave it" - you can't tailor the timing or run time at all. For example, the 7 day schedule cleans every other day for 30 minutes, but you can't ask it to clean for a consecutive four days at 30 minutes a day, something I would have appreciated, or five days skipping only one day somewhere in between.

The robot is supposed to park itself at the waterline when it's done to be easily picked up, it doesn't seem to be very well implemented. You don't get any notification on your phone that it's done and ready to be picked up so in practice I just find the robot parked at the foot of the wall.

Charging is a piece of cake - you just unscrew a cap on the top of the robot and plug in the charger. There's nothing tricky or difficult about taking off the cap or putting it back on - it works exactly like you'd imagine it should. The charger wires are a little too thin IMHO and easily strained - mine came with a pretty good bend right at the edge of the strain relief and this made me a little worried about the longevity of the wire. Also replacement chargers are very expensive from Wybot - somewhere around $80-100 IIRC. Speaking of which, Wybot doesn't seem to carry much in the way of parts, so if the robot dies out of warranty, it may be hard to keep it in service. That's less of an issue considering the reasonable price, but it would be a shame to throw out a whole robot for want of a small part sometime down the road.

Overall, as long as the longevity is there, my impression is that the Wybot C1 is amazing for the price. If it only had filter mesh as nice as the Active 20 I'd really question if the Maytronics robot serves a purpose at all anymore. I've never used or seen an Aiper Scuba S1 in use so I can't say how the Wybot compares to that, but since it climbs the slopes of my pool fine, at least in terms of performance and navigation it appears to be a good alternative for folks with hopper bottoms and freeform shapes.

Hopefully this is helpful for folks looking in this space. If anyone has any questions I'll respond as best as I can as time permits.
Hello, two questions for you:
1. Are you still happy your Wybot C1?

2. I'm very overly sensitive to wifi. Is there a way to operate the Wybot C1 without wifi?

Thanks in advance! AngieH2O

I'm a little confused by your question here. The wifi is really only needed for firmware updates. For changing the pool modes I believe all you need to BT connectivity(if you get the C1 Pro you can change the modes from a button on the unit).

Hope this helps

Hello, two questions for you:
1. Are you still happy your Wybot C1?

Sorry for the late reply! I've been away from the forums for a bit and didn't realize a question was being directed to me.

Yes, I'm very happy with my Wybot C1. In fact, I just sent it out to work for the next three days a few minutes ago. My pool is consistently much cleaner than with the Maytronics Dolphin alone, because it's so much more convenient to use and can coexist nicely with my Betta skimmer. Before the C1, the pool floor would just collect junk all week, sometimes for two weeks if I was busy enough ... and of course, when I want to use wall mode, the C1 is far more effective about cleaning up to the tile line, while the Dolphin usually slides down the pool wall before it can get to the tiles.

Naturally, I'm very concerned about the reports of bad CS from Wybot/Aiper and the lack of parts availability for repairs. I'd definitely hesitate before considering one of their more upscale models.

At this point, the main question in my mind is how many years of service I'll get out of it before it dies. We'll see.

I think Wifi is always on when it's charging and always off when it's off the charger.

Can you leave it in the pool..I'm sure I saw somewhere you shouldn't?

Also can you leave it on charge if left out if the pool or should you disconnect when solid green? Thanks
I leave it in the pool and usually set it up to clean daily. Any pool cleaner living all the time in the pool probably won’t last as long, but daily cleaning is kind of the whole point for me.

I wouldn’t recommend leaving it on the charger once the battery is full. That may or may not matter depending on how the BMS charging circuit is designed, but it’s safer to assume the worst.

I Don't suggest both, But if you have to choose one from Wybot c1 and Scuba S1, I will choose Aiper, Although Aiper is known as put a lot of cost on marketing, and has more brand premium, But Aiper has a stronger suction about 4000+GPH but Wybot has only around 2600 GPH. That is why wybot " wheelie", because the suction power is not enough.

And Aiper and Wybot is not the same company, WYBOT ODM for Aiper at the begining, But Aiper is not satisfied with Wybot's cheap workmanship and high ODM profits, and has started producing robots on its own.
Therefore, now they are completely two companies.
If you have a beautiful backyard, I still recommend Aiper.
Because his workmanship is much more exquisite compared to Wybot.
Of course, as a practitioner in the industry, I wouldn't even choose when making my own purchases.
I don't want to pay for the beautiful AIPER advertisement, nor do I want to buy the cheap workmanship and creaking lids of Wybot.
There is another product with a similar price to theirs.
But the battery capacity and suction power are twice as high as theirs, and there is a two-layer filtration system.
You should know that the two-layer filtering system is only equipped on robots priced above $800

Do you mind sharing what brand this is or posting a link?

ETA: I'm seeing one made by Chasing called the Poolmate Hydro 3 and 3S that may fit this criteria but have not heard anything about them.
