Wood overlay on AGP walls?

Browsing landscaping photos for above ground pools, I noticed there are a lot that have a wood overlay or surround around the outside of the pool walls.

I'm wondering if there are any sort of issues to worry about whe doing this?
Our pool is partially buried and I'm thinking this might be a nice way to dress it up a bit once we finish our deck, which will only come up to the side of the pool at ground level.

A few things I might be concerned with would be water retention between the wood and the steel walls, freezing in the winter, and of course, not being able to see the condition of the walls for any rust protection or maintenance.

Are these valid concerns that would be a deal breaker? Or just being paranoid?

I'm thinking along these lines...

How are they even holding that to to pool? The first picture shows some sort of banding around the pool, but the second picture looks like it is made from 5/4 decking. What is it attached to? Not the pool wall. at the very most there would be some sort of joist uder teh deck that they screwed the panels to. Give it a season ot two, and with it only attached at one end, it will warp up quite nicely and look like garbage.

If I was to do something like this, I would build it freestanding, with an air gap (maybe an ince or so) between the back of the wood and the pool.
