Good morning everyone! I just purchased a Pentair Superflo VS to replace an old Hayward single speed. I have a question about the wiring. The old wiring was "Anaconda" brand and had two yellow wires and one green ground wire. The old wiring is stranded wire and was starting to fray so I was wondering about replacing the Anaconda wiring from my on/off switch to the new pump. I was wondering if I can buy that kind of wiring at Home Depot or somewhere like that? I saw some rubber conduit at HD that had no wiring in it but I imagine I could pull wiring through. The Anaconda wiring used a metal nut to attach to the pump...I tried using a metal elbow on the new pump and it did not feel like it mated properly.
1. If I keep the old wiring, can I just use a plastic elbow on the pump and the metal nut?
2. If I replace the wiring, what kind am I looking for?
I will attach some pictures.

Replace it. Get yourself some 12 GA wire to serve as your two "hot leg" conductors for the 240V power, and grab a new green ground wire. These should all be solid wire, none of that old stranded stuff.

You can buy separate parts to make the "whip" or pigtail connection at the pump, or you have the option of finding whips that are pre-made like the one below. I'm sure others will reply with additional details.

Hope that helps.

Thanks for the info. I did see some “whips” at Home Depot and thought it might be what I was looking for. I did not see any three wire whips, but I guess I could buy a 4 wire whip and just remove one wire.

Can you explain THHN/THWN is layman’s terms…
THHN stands for Thermoplastic High Heat-resistant Nylon-coated. THWN wire is the same, but the "W" stands for water-resistant. The main difference between these two standards is their maximum temperature in wet locations.

Don't forget to bond the pump and ensure that it is on a dedicated GFCI...Oh, and the bonding in Canada is 6 AWG.

I didn’t see you are in Canada do your electrical codes are a bit different.

In the US wiring standards for outdoor wiring is different then indoor wiring. Wire must be water resistant even when in a whip. Thus the THWN rating.

You run individual wires through the whip and don’t use a prewired one.

Finished it up last weekend and thought I would add some pictures of the completed job. In pictures 5 and 6 you can see the SimPush connection I used (brand is Southwire). These connections were super easy to use...I strongly recommend them if you are not familiar with using other liquid tight connections.
