Why is some of the tubing in my spa very discoloured?

The EOS system by BullFrog is a better setup. It injects ozone into a contact tank that water flows into but the gas blows off the top through a valve and active charcoal filter to neutralize any residual. Flowing ozone into the tub is just a bad idea because it can cause exposure and it degrades all the materials that contact it.

Here is a picture of some of the tubing in my spa. There is a rather thin tube that is very brown and feels kind of gummy. This is just after my flow switch where there is a hard plastic connector. I am not sure where this goes - perhaps someone else has an idea.

Is this an issue? Should this tubing be replaced.

My spas is a Jacuzzi J325 from 2006. I have had a bunch of work done on it through the years - the two main pumps have been replaced, and probably other stuff as well when it was serviced by the local Jacuzzi service rep.

The ozone test is just a DPD test and it will react with chlorine or bromine.

You can do the same test with your current FAS-DPD or DPD reagent test kit.

> SLIDE COMPARATOR TEST
> DPD OZONE (0-0.66 or 0-2.0 ppm)

SLIDE(TM) COMPARATOR (may include only one):

9317 (0, 0.15, 0.3, 0.4, 0.5, 0.7, 1.0, 1.3, 2.0 ppm)
9318 (0, 0.07, 0.13, 0.20, 0.26, 0.33, 0.40, 0.53, 0.66 ppm)

REAGENTS:

R-0001 DPD Reagent #1, DB
R-0002 DPD Reagent #2, DB
R-0003 DPD Reagent #3, DB

APPARATUS:

3 x 3243 Caps, Test Cell 11.5 mL, plastic
3 x 4024 Test Cells, Calibrated 11.5 mL, plastic
1 x 5570 Instruction
1 x 6002 Brush, Cell Cleaner
1 x 9189 Base, Enslow (for test cells)

TO ORDER REPLACEMENT PARTS AND REAGENTS CALL TOLL-FREE 800-TEST KIT (800-837-8548).

PROCEDURE:

CAREFULLY READ AND FOLLOW PRECAUTIONS ON REAGENT LABELS.

KEEP REAGENTS AWAY FROM CHILDREN.

1. Add 5 drops R-0001 DPD Reagent #1, 5 drops R-0002 DPD Reagent #2, and 5 drops R-0003 DPD Reagent #3 to 11.5 mL
test cell (#4024).

2. Using a separate test cell, dilute to 11.5 mL mark with water to be tested.

Cap and mix.

3. Wipe dry and place in center slot of comparator base (#9189) WITH FROSTED SIDE FACING OPERATOR.

4. Rinse and fill two test cells to 11.5 mL mark with water to be tested.

5. Wipe dry and place in two slots adjacent to center slot of comparator base.

6. Place Slide on comparator base.

Match color in center test cell with a color standard.

The Slide is in proper alignment for a color match when a white line on the Slide is directly above the white line on the comparator base.

Record as parts per million (ppm) ozone.

NOTE: If sample color matches or is deeper than highest color standard: Use an ozone Slide with a higher range.
