Where to Put Valves?

I’m re-installing my pump and filter after a new retaining wall caused me to remove them.

To re-install the pump and filter, I’ll need to elbow up to gain a little elevation and then elbow horizontally to get to the pump and filter.

When installing the new valves, should I put the valves in the horizontal pipe runs, or in the vertical pipe runs?

Do whatever works best for you. The pump will not care where the valves are.

Thanks, I was wondering if winterizing would be easier one way or another.
