The high FC losses in the day are due to not enough CYA in the water.
There is no issue testing the CYA at high FC levels.
I would leave the SWG off until you are done with the SLAM.

Okay, CYA is added, and the water seems a touch clearer today.

More problems of course! Yesterday the pool was accidentally filled above the skimmer, very full. We drained some but it was still pretty full. This morning its barely halfway up the skimmer faceplate. Leak?

The pump reaches prime, and then sucks air in and the skimmer basket waterfalls water in. I noticed two chunks out of the faceplate where I can see my liner.
Should I get a dye test?

Also, can I still run my pump if it sucks air every few seconds?

I haven't had the pleasure of figuring out a suction leak. But, here is an article from Pool School discussing it.

Here are the couple chunks out of the skimplate, I hope those are causing the leak. The plate inside the skinner that moves back and forth is also cracked
