I never quite understand when it says lower PH to 7.0-7.2 (which it is) and aerate to Increase PH.
My TA is 140 my PH is 7.2.
Free Chlorine is 4.5 (about to add)
CC is .5
C6N is 40(increasing slowly the last few days)
Just opened Thursday, rain on and off.

Thank you

I agree with Jim, leave it alone. It will drift down on it's own slowly.

Lower pH - use muriatic acid....TA also comes down
Raise pH - use borax.....it has little effect on TA.
Lower TA - acid and aeration method....see Pool School
Raise TA - use baking soda....it has little affect on pH

98,

The instructions are based upon the pH being 7.8 or so.. You then add enough Acid to drop the pH to 7.0-7.2 and then aerate which will increase the pH back toward 7.8. Every few hours you look at your pH and when it gets to about 7.6 or so, you add more acid. You just keep doing this over and over and over.

At first the TA will not drop much, but the longer you do it, the larger the TA drop will be.

When I do this, it takes me about two days to reduce my TA from about 140 to about 50. It will bounce back from 50 to 60 in about a microsecond...

I use a waterfall to aerate and I leave it on for the entire process.. I add acid from the morning until about 9 or 10 pm and then start again the next morning.

Please let me know if that does not make sense,

Jim R.
