Ok, I think I’ve posted about this before, but I need some direction again.

Be aware, my pool is gross right now due to a hurricane force pummeling of pollen last week.

When I bought my house, the pool never had a weir door. Theirs a little knob broken off where one would go.

What are my options on replacement?

It looks like that little nub might be removable? Any markings on the skimmer parts indicating a model or manufacturer?

What are the inside dimensions of the skimmer mouth?

Here are more photos. The dimensions are 8.5x6”. The pool store said I could use this cylinder instead of the weir door. Thoughts? The little knob isn’t removable, and I think I’d have to use a hammer to get it off. Or similar. And that might do more damage.

That is correct. The knob is part of the skimmer, the knob on the other side has already broken off, rendering the skimmer in-operable with the original weir, which looks like this:

You can buy universal weirs that fit without the knobs necessary, like this:

I have no experience with the in skimmer weir...I think @mknauss does, maybe he will weigh in...

I've been using one of these for > 24 years (I'm on my second now as the first one only lasted 19 years. The pool store I bought it from said it wasn't covered by warranty). Does the job, but has lots of places for Algae to hide so you need to pull it out for a thorough clean if you need to SLAM.

Great! I plan to buy one soon. How do I ensure I get the right size? When I measure height and width I’m so nervous I’m not measuring accurately.

The measurements don't have to be that accurate. Width is the important one.

Remember the purpose of the door is to help increase the velocity of water entering the skimmer to pull floating stuff off the surface, and to prevent stuff in the skimmer floating back out when the filter is off. It's not critical. Just make sure whatever you buy is narrow enough to fit. Mine must be ~5mm too narrow in total. The spring and plungers that keep it in place have loads of wiggle room.

I measured the width, took my tape measure to the pool store and found one that was "about right".
