Water leak in Winter

Can anyone tell me if losing approx 1 inch of water in an inground pool that is closed is normal in the winter? Pool is located in Northern Indiana and it has a solid pool cover on it that is less than 2 yrs old. No rips, tears or hopes in the cover. No noticeable leaks or water fluctuations in the summer when in use.

In 1 week. Temps have stayed around 40 during the day and upper 20s to lower 30s at night. This is an inground pool too.

You should trust the experts (I'm not one), but 1/7" per day with covered 30-something water, which it sounds like you have, does sound high. My pool loses less than 1/10" per day with no cover and light winds at this temp.

Can you rig a bucket test under the cover?

That's the gold standard.
