washing soda but pH no go up?

Or were you referring to using Borax to add Borates to the pool as a pH buffer system? In my opinion they are really only beneficial when there is a problem with an SWG cell constantly scaling up. In this case, Borates help a great deal in controlling the local pH increase inside the cell that is responsible for the scale development. But in this case, Boric Acid would be the preferred option to add Borates.

Hi. True. Out here goes like this. Air temp and water temp say 40. Then is 24-48 hrs goes to air temp and water temp 30. At water temp 30 CSI is below -.3. But this only lasts a few days and as pointed out above, < -0.3 for a few days can just be ignored. And turn the eyeballs up but if some ice forms, ignore that also. (Although it surely is fun to poke it with a stick, and make icebergs to float round). Thanks.
